🍂Thank you, Aunty Vern. It is always a privilege to listen, learn, and be guided by our Elders.

Last night at Council I raised a Notice of Motion about the access issues and safety concerns facing Bayonet Head residents, including the ongoing congestion at the Bayonet Head Rd -Lower King Rd intersection.

With an amendment from Councillor Lynn MacLaren, City of Albany, the intent of the motion remained strong, and it received unanimous support.

This means the City of Albany will now allocate funds for a feasibility study so we can finally start progressing real solutions for our community.

I was elected to represent our community, and I’m proud that at my second Council meeting we’ve already secured action and commitment.

I’ll keep showing up, using the Council process, and working hard to deliver the outcomes I promised.

Thank you to everyone who supported me and who continue to support my commitment to building a vibrant, liveable, and progressive Albany community.

I’m so pleased to see the much-loved Middleton Beach Toddler Playground getting an upgrade, supported by a $140,000 from the Labor State Election Commitment.

This little playground is such a special place for families. I’ve spent plenty of time there myself with my kids and it’s great to see plans to make it even more fun, safe, and accessible for our youngest locals.

Make sure you get along to the Community Consultation session.

Have your say on how you play!

The City is upgrading the Middleton Beach Toddler Playground (just south of the Big 4 Caravan Park) and we’d love your input. Its your chance to share your ideas on what would make this playground a fun, safe, and exciting place for little ones.

Today on International Day of Rural Women, we celebrate the strength, leadership, and resilience of rural women.

This year’s theme, “Rural Women Rising,” is both a tribute and a call to action. When we invest in women’s livelihoods, leadership, and rights, we strengthen our communities and build a more sustainable future for everyone.

I want to acknowledge the incredible people throughout my journey from school, community, and professional life who have inspired and guided me along the way.

It hasn’t always been easy being a woman, and as the first woman to serve as Member for Albany, there have been challenges. The photo below says a lot: when the former Mayor told new citizens to vote for “blokes” like him and the Member for O’Connor, a fabulous woman in the crowd called out, “And a woman like Rebecca!” 💪

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of speaking on Commonwealth Parliamentary panels, working alongside the amazing regional women in Parliament the “chicks from the stix” and mentoring students who remind me why representation matters.

🛑🗳️Don’t forget to vote! Election Day is this Saturday 18 October.

How is your vote counted in Local Government elections?

In WA, we use optional preferential voting for local government elections. This means you can vote for one candidate, some or all, and your preferences help decide the outcome.

Here's how it works:

👉All the number “1” votes are counted first.

👉If no one gets over 50%, the lowest candidate is out.

👉Their votes are redistributed to the next preference if one is marked. If a ballot has no further preferences, it becomes exhausted and no longer counts in the tally.

👉Repeat until someone has a majority and wins.

Optional preferential voting means your vote can still count even if your first choice doesn’t win.

Quick tip: Numbering more boxes gives your vote more power!
