Boss asking you for a sick certificate?

You don’t need to waste your time and money going to the GP or booking a telehealth appointment for runny nose. Statutory declarations are considered evidence (check your workplace agreement first) for sick and carer’s leave, same as a medical certificate, and you can make one online for free in less than five minutes, without having to leave your bed or talk to anyone.

A stat dec is basically a written, legal statement that what you’re saying is true. You used to have to sign it in front of an official witness like a Justice of the Peace, but since 2024 you can do one by yourself through MyGov using your digital ID.

How much should I get paid? That depends...

The minimum wage is $24.95 per hour (from July 1 2025).

BUT, there are a number of factors that go into working out how much you should be paid. This can be different from workplace to workplace, even worker to worker.

If a job requires you to click through online modules, read a 100-page policy manual, or watch mandatory safety videos before you even clock in... that is WORK.

And if you are working, you MUST be paid.

Heard a rumour that talking about your pay will get you fired? 🙄That's a lie designed to keep your wage low!

You are totally allowed to chat about your wages, penalty rates, and super with your workmates.
WHY? Because when you know what your workmates are earning, you can figure out if you're being ripped off! 🕵️‍♀️
