THE MOST EXPENSIVE CARS EVER BUILT ARE STILL PARKED ON THE MOON
At first, that sounds impossible.
But it's actually true.
During the Apollo 15, 16, and 17 missions, NASA sent three Lunar Roving Vehicles—battery-powered electric cars designed specifically for driving across the Moon. Each rover carried astronauts and scientific equipment across terrain that would have taken hours to cross on foot.
Although each rover cost about $38 million to build in the early 1970s, inflation pushes that figure to well over $250 million each in today's money. That makes them some of the most expensive vehicles ever constructed.
So why didn't NASA bring them back?
The answer is simple: weight.
Every extra kilogram launched from the Moon required valuable rocket fuel. To make room for hundreds of kilograms of priceless lunar rock samples, the astronauts left the rovers behind at their landing sites before returning to Earth.
More than 50 years later, all three lunar rovers are still sitting exactly where they were parked. With no rain, no wind, and no roads, they remain frozen in time on the Moon's surface.
So yes—the most expensive cars ever built aren't in a museum or a billionaire's garage.
They're still parked on the Moon.
