What’s the most unusual thing you’ve seen a cockatoo do? 🤔

From opening wheelie bins to learning tricks and solving complex problems, cockatoos have earned a reputation as some of Australia’s most intelligent birds.

This week, Professor Chris Daniels joined 891 ABC Adelaide’s Rory McClaren to discuss the conic bird and hear listeners’ incredible cockatoo stories.

"They are really smart, they seem to be able to solve problems, they also learn from each other, and they have a really good sense of smell, vision and hearing," Professor Chris Daniels said.

Shout-out to Zameer Gill ❤️👏

After noticing people sleeping rough in the cold on his morning drive, local resident Zameer Gill decided to take action — donating 50 sleeping bags to Adelaide's homeless community this week.

“I normally drive down Unley Road through the Park Lands and along Pulteney Street. Often you'll see a few blokes wrapped up as best as possible, meanwhile I have my seat warmer on in my fancy Kia," he told 891 ABC Adelaide’s Breakfast with Sonya, Jules and Rory McClaren.

“I saw a sale on sleeping bags and thought I could do something.”

“I feel so grateful that the staff at Hutt St Centre were so helpful. I went back and got more sleeping bags the next day. It's nice to see that there is so much positivity in the community.”

A simple act of kindness that will make a real difference this winter.

The horses are coming back! 🐎 😍

In 2022, Lockleys Riding Club's horses were forced to relocate while the Breakout Creek / Purruna Pari redevelopment transformed the West Beach site.

Now, they're set to return in mid-July — but in much smaller numbers, with the herd reduced from 15 horses to just five.

"Each individual member will have to pay a lot more. It does make it a little bit tricky to... pay the bills," club president Megan Eastaughffe told 891 ABC Adelaide's Nikolai Beilharz.
