Today is International Youth Day 💜

This year’s theme, Different Contexts, Common Aspirations, recognises that young people may come from very different backgrounds and experiences, but share many of the same hopes for the future: to learn, work, have a voice and build a life they’re proud of.

For young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds, those aspirations can be shaped by experiences across cultures, countries and communities. Their perspectives bring something important to the communities they’re part of.

International Youth Day is a chance to celebrate those perspectives, recognise the resilience of young people and make sure they have opportunities to be heard, participate and shape the future.

Here’s to the young people bringing new ideas, new perspectives and new energy to our communities, today and every day 💜

Every Monday, we’ll be challenging some of the common myths surrounding refugees and migrants in Australia and replacing assumptions with facts ✅

We’re starting with a misconception that overlooks the many ways people from refugee and migrant backgrounds contribute to the communities they call home.

Contribution can look like many things, from starting a business or building a career, to volunteering, sharing knowledge, supporting others and creating connections.

Sometimes, finding the right support can be the first step towards a new beginning.

For Maria*, that support helped her navigate a challenging time, rebuild her confidence and strengthen her connection with her daughter.

After settling in Australia from Venezuela, Maria was adjusting to a new environment while facing challenges including language barriers, social isolation and the complexities of parenting away from familiar supports.

By taking the time to understand Maria’s experiences and provide support that was culturally responsive and tailored to her needs, the MYSA team worked alongside her to build confidence, develop new strategies and create positive change for her family.

Read Maria’s story and discover how the right support at the right time can help families move forward 👉 mysa.com.au/parenting-support-multicultural-families/

At MYSA, we see every day that our differences are something to celebrate.

When young people feel safe to share their culture, experiences and perspectives, they don't just build confidence, they build stronger friendships, stronger communities and a stronger future for all of us.

Belonging begins with recognising and celebrating the value in one another - this weekend, we hope you're surrounded by people who make you feel like you belong 💜
