25-year-old twins Adrian and Andre have been getting to know Australia for the past three years since arriving from their home country of Venezuela.

They both thoroughly enjoy having conversations and meeting new people, and that's exactly what they're looking forward to at Tea With a Refugee!

They’re happy to share stories about growing up in Venezuela, their journey to Australia and the differences they’ve noticed along the way. They’re just as interested in hearing from others and learning about Aussie life over a friendly chat!

Tea With a Refugee is all about sitting down together, sharing a cuppa and getting to know the people behind the stories.

Hanad arrived in Australia just over 18 months ago.

At 16, he spent almost a year detained underground in Thailand before eventually making his way to Australia. Now 19, he's keen to share his story, answer questions, and connect with people from across the community 💛

We’re looking for volunteers 💜
MYSA volunteers help support young people from multicultural backgrounds as they settle into life in Australia, build confidence and connect with their community.

There are lots of ways to get involved, from supporting events and programs to tutoring, mentoring, helping with driving hours and assisting with behind-the-scenes admin support.

You don’t need heaps of experience, just a willingness to help out and be part of something meaningful!

Volunteering with MYSA is a chance to support young people directly, build new skills and experience and be part of a welcoming, diverse community - what more could you want?

Today is National Sorry Day.

We remember and acknowledge the Stolen Generations: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were taken from their families, communities and Country. This caused lasting harm that continues across generations and today is about recognising that truth and the strength of those who survived it.

Tomorrow also marks the start of National Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation is not a moment in time, but an ongoing commitment to listen, learn and ensure First Nations voices are centred in how we acknowledge and understand this country’s past and build its future.

At MYSA, we’re taking this week to reflect and learn. We encourage our amazing community to do the same 💛
