Award winning “best practice” Aboriginal economic and workplace solutions

19/06/2026

Great to see the impact of strong partnerships in action at the Mount Barker Interchange Upgrade Project.

Recently, TJ, General Manager of RAW Personnel, and Kym Smith, Aboriginal Workforce Participation Coordinator, visited site to catch up with Nikki Jackson and Daniel Kranixfeld, Operations Manager at Bardavcol Pty Ltd, and see firsthand the outstanding work being delivered on this significant infrastructure project.

The Mount Barker Interchange Upgrade is a major project that will improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and support the region's growing population. It’s also creating valuable opportunities for workforce development and career growth.

A fantastic example of this is Nikki Jackson, a proud Ngarrindjeri and Narungga woman, who has been employed through RAW Personnel as a Site Clerk with Bardavcol. Since joining the project, Nikki has become a valued member of the team, gaining hands-on experience within the civil construction industry and continuing to build skills that will support her future career aspirations.

A special mention to Daniel Kranixfeld, whose leadership, mentorship, and commitment to developing people have played a key role in Nikki’s growth and success on site. The support Bardavcol continues to provide demonstrates the value of investing in people and creating pathways for long-term career development.

We’re proud to see what can be achieved when like-minded organisations work together to create meaningful employment opportunities and support the next generation of industry professionals.

Counting down to the Building Futures Summit 2026! 🛠️🌱

Last year, RAW Group proudly joined 12 project partners to sign the Pledge for Change. A year later, we’re coming together again to unpack the latest research on the true state of our industry and look at what’s next for real workplace inclusion.

We’re so proud to be part of a coordinated, national approach that is led by industry and backed by real evidence. For us, it’s all about building on what makes this industry great – teamwork, the trust, and the pride in our skilled work – and making sure those paths are wide open to everyone.

We're sending Rocky and Rachael, to represent RAW Group and take part this year. Meaningful change happens when we collaborate and lift each other up. Let’s get to work!

Project Partners: Fire Industry Alliance, Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre, PPTEU Victoria, Master Plumbers, Master Plumbers Association of Queensland, Air Conditioning & Mechanical Contractors' Association, Cooke & Dowsett Plumbing Group, Axis Service Group, Leemark Fire Protection, IAPMO, and A.G. RAW Stories – Congratulations Kye on being recognised through the Tram Grade Separation Projects Alliance (TGSPA) as the monthly winner of the Apprentice Reward and Recognition Award.

Supported through RAW Group’s GTO division and hosted through TGSPA, Kye has demonstrated outstanding commitment and professionalism throughout the project, consistently going above and beyond to support the team and contribute to strong outcomes.

His willingness to step outside his formal role, support engineering and assurance functions, and take on additional responsibilities reflects both his strong work ethic and the significant growth he has shown over the past year.

We are proud to see our apprentices recognised for the impact they make on projects and the teams they work within.

Thank you to TGSPA for providing valuable opportunities for apprentices like Kye to develop, contribute and shine.

RAW Stories – Meet Taite - RAW GTO Apprentice Hosted by likeminded industry partner SKS Indigenous Technologies.

Since commencing his Electrotechnology Electrician (UEE30820) - Certificate III, Taite has quickly become a respected and valued member of the team. His strong work ethic, initiative, willingness to learn and team-first attitude have not gone unnoticed.

Taite has gained hands-on exposure across a diverse range of projects within the electrical industry, including:

- High-end office fit-outs
- LED lighting upgrades
- Sports lighting installations
- New school construction projects
- Switchboard terminations
- RCD upgrades
- Fault finding
- Data and communications – including CAT 6A, fibre optics, audio visual systems and earthing

His ability to continually develop his skillset, embrace new challenges and apply what he learns on site has been extremely pleasing to see.

RAW Group's GTO division is proud to support apprentices like Taite as they build meaningful careers in partnership with host employers like SKS Technologies.

We look forward to continuing to support Taite throughout his apprenticeship journey and watching his career progress.

Creating opportunity where it otherwise does not exist.

RAW Group's GTO division provides life-changing opportunities to First Nations peoples, minority cohorts, Australians from culturally diverse backgrounds, and those experiencing socio-economic disadvantage.

Addressing skills shortages and increasing workforce diversity are priorities shared across government and industry. More women. More First Nations Australians. More people from migrant communities entering high-paying, high-skill careers in construction.

That benefits everyone. And it’s exactly what RAW GTO is delivering - right now, on the ground, with real people.

In partnership with the PPTEU and industry leaders, we provide high-quality, apprentice-level training to jobseekers who face complex barriers, require tailored support, are underrepresented in the industry, or simply need a second chance.

The impact speaks for itself:
👉 11 apprentices completed training in 2024
👉 9 apprentices completed in 2025
👉 4 have already qualified this year, with another 4 on track before year’s end
👉 44 apprentices currently in training across all programs

Our current reach includes:
👉 25 women in our Women in Plumbing Program, supported with comprehensive wraparound services
👉First Nations Australians achieving 85%+ completion rates
👉Young people from African Australian communities finding meaningful pathways out of disadvantage

What sets RAW apart is what mainstream providers often cannot offer: flexibility, mentoring, accommodation support, and intensive guidance that ensures apprentices don’t fall through the cracks.

This project marks the first of two 250MW batteries, a critical step in powering the future and strengthening energy security at scale.

Each battery will be capable of powering approximately 300,000 households for up to four hours during network disruptions.

A major asset for the region, delivering long-term benefits to Adelaide’s north once complete.
