Bonzimbi Rhodesian Ridgebacks
Committed to preserving, improving and promoting this wonderful breed. Located Adelaide, South Australia
Dedicated ANKC registered, ethical breeder of show, performance and companion Rhodesian Ridgebacks. I share my home with four amazing Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and I hope to share what life with this special breed is all about. I am a registered breeder with The Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC). Bonzimbi is named after my first Rhodesian Ridgeback 'Bonnie' and the town 'Thabazimbi' in South Africa where she comes from (and where I lived and fell in love with the breed). Follow to learn more about Ridgebacks, keep up to date with my dogs lives and for future litter information. I am committed to always improving the breed with every litter i thoughtfully produce. All breeding stock has full health testing performed to ensure puppies are given the best chance at a long and healthy life. This includes hip and elbow X-rays and scoring (with PennHip if deemed necessary), breed specific DNA profiling for heritable diseases and heart screening (including auscultation, holter monitoring and ultrasound (Echo)) by a veterinary cardiologist. Temperament is my number one focus alongside good health, excellent type and beauty. I welcome all enquiries and encourage a meet and greet of my dogs before deciding if a Rhodesian Ridgeback is right for you.
The puppies love their afternoon licky mat snack time!
Zoobie and the remaining 5 puppies went to visit Miss Purple (now called Arwen) in her new home today to see how she’s settling in.
They loved checking out all her toys, her huge garden and her comfy beds 💜
Zoobie certainly approved, and was happy to say goodbye to Arwen when it was time to go home.
8 puppies to go 💕
Day 55
The puppies are learning to default sit for attention.
This gives them a default behaviour to utilise when they want something. Most puppies will default to jumping up, barking or biting for attention, food or toys. It’s normal, but can be challenging for new owners to manage.
This exercise gives the puppies a socially acceptable alternative.
It’s simple to teach, the puppies have a one on one session first, where everytime they assume a sitting position and eye contact they get a tasty treat.
Then we practice in a group setting. The puppies jump and play and bite. Just ignore, avoid eye contact, stay standing upright. As soon as any puppy sits, they get a tasty reward. It doesn’t take long for them to understand the assignment.
There’s no verbal commands, no reactions to ‘unwanted’ behaviour, simply stand and wait, then reward the sit and watch.
Teaching puppies socially acceptable behaviours sets them up for success in their new homes.

The puppies turn 8 weeks tomorrow, they are spending their last days together and preparing to be collected by their families to start their new lives.
It’s always a bittersweet time, each puppy has been lovingly brought into the world and nurtured as an individual to be their best self.
A few pictures of their last few days enjoyed together 💕💕
The puppies enjoyed chasing some bubbles today!
