❄️ Keeping Warm this Winter ❄️

As the weather gets colder, it's important to take extra care of yourself and those around you.
For people living with brain injury, colder temperatures can sometimes impact fatigue, mobility, muscle stiffness, circulation, and overall comfort. Staying warm can help you stay active, comfortable, and connected during the winter months.

Here are some simple ways to keep warm this season:
🧣 Dress in layers
☕ Enjoy warm drinks and meals
🏠 Keep the cold out by closing curtains, reducing drafts, and creating a cosy indoor space
🔥 Use warming aids such as hand warmers, wheat bags, heated blankets, or heat packs
🚶 Stay active with gentle movement and exercise
🤝 Stay connected with family, friends, and your support network

Winter is a good reminder to check in with yourself. Stay warm, rest when you need to, and be gentle with yourself throughout the colder months 💛

🧠 June 8 is World Brain Tumour Day 🧠

World Brain Tumour Day is a global awareness day dedicated to increasing understanding of brain tumours and the impact they have on individuals, families, and communities.
A brain tumour can affect a person’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social wellbeing.

Depending on the location and progression of the tumour, and the effects of treatment, some people may also experience an acquired brain injury and require ongoing rehabilitation and support.

On this day, we acknowledge the strength and resilience of people living with a brain tumour, survivors, their families and carers, and the health professionals who support them throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.

🎗️ Raising awareness helps promote earlier recognition, better understanding of long-term impacts, and improved support for people to live well in their communities.

🏋️ New equipment alert! 🏋️

Our Southern Hub gym has had an upgrade - and we're excited to introduce our new Cable machine!

This versatile equipment allows our therapy team to tailor exercise programs to each person's goals, supporting strength, balance, mobility, and functional movement.

The adjustable cable system can be used for a wide range of upper limb, lower limb, and core exercises, with resistance that can be graded to suit individual abilities and stages of recovery.

The machine also includes a Smith machine component, which supports guided exercises such as squats, sit-to-stands, lunges, calf raises, and deadlift variations, helping clients build strength, improve postural control, and work towards greater independence in everyday activities.

This exciting addition will help us continue delivering evidence-based rehabilitation and exercise programs for people living with brain injury and other neurological conditions.

✨ We’re excited to see the machine in action – and we currently have capacity for Physiotherapy appointments at our Southern Hub!

As part of National Reconciliation Week, BISA’s RAP Committee attended the Reconciliation in the West event at Tauondi Aboriginal College yesterday!

We had a fantastic day connecting with the community, sharing information and resources about the brain, and putting people’s memory skills to the test with our recall game 🧠

It was also wonderful to experience the talented artists and performers who brought so much energy and culture to the event, and to meet so many people from across the community throughout the day.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat with us!
