๐ŸŒฑโœจ Exciting news โ€” Iโ€™ll be facilitating TWO events at Neurokindred's Thriving Autistically 2025 Online Program this October!

๐Ÿ’– Event 1: Thriving Autistically 2025 โ€“ Day 2

Odditorium: Weird & Wonderful Objects & Collections
With myself (El Payne โ€“ Deep Seas), Karen K, Melody Edwardson (Wellbeing Wise) & Sharni

Enter the Odditorium โ€” a relaxed, no-pressure *Show & Tell* SpIns session celebrating the beauty of Autistic collecting, curiosity, and meaning-making.

Bring along your delightfully strange, deeply treasured, or wonderfully odd collections (or just photos!) โ€” bones, buttons, fossils, dice, postcards, figurines, jarsโ€ฆ anything goes.

Each participant will have ~5 minutes to share:
๐Ÿ”น What you collect
๐Ÿ”น How long youโ€™ve collected
๐Ÿ”น How you organise it
๐Ÿ”น Favourite finds or stories
๐Ÿ”น Why itโ€™s meaningful

๐Ÿ“… When: Sunday Oct 5th
โฐ AUS: 6โ€“7.30pm AEST | 6.30โ€“8pm ACDT | 7โ€“8.30pm AEDT | 4โ€“5.30pm AWST
โฐ UK: 9โ€“10.30am BST
โฐ US: 4โ€“5.30am EDT

๐Ÿ–ค Event 2: Thriving Autistically 2025 โ€“ Day 5

True Crime & Serial Killers: The Black Dahlia Murders

Together weโ€™ll explore the socio-cultural, artistic, and psychological landscape surrounding the 1947 murder of Elizabeth Short โ€” known as the Black Dahlia. Through a trauma-informed, neurodivergent lens, weโ€™ll look beyond caricatures of โ€œvictimโ€ and โ€œvillainโ€ to understand Elizabeth Short and Dr. George Hodel as neurodivergent individuals shaped by patriarchy, psychiatry, and surrealist art.

Weโ€™ll also reflect on Steve Hodelโ€™s decades-long investigation of his father, reframing it as an expression of neurodivergent hyperfocus, legacy trauma, and meaning-making.

๐Ÿ“… When: Wednesday Oct 8th
โฐ AUS: 6โ€“8pm AEST | 6.30โ€“8.30pm ACDT | 7โ€“9pm AEDT | 4โ€“6pm AWST
โฐ UK: 9โ€“11am BST
โฐ US: 4โ€“6am EDT

Iโ€™m really looking forward to connecting with everyone at these sessions โ€” whether youโ€™re bringing your collections to share or joining the Black Dahlia discussion. Letโ€™s celebrate curiosity, complexity, and the richness of neurodivergent lives.

Our Autism Level UP Energy Manual just arrived (5 mins ago), and the stimming was uncontrollable! I could not be MORE excited to get reading and upskilling myself!

In case you haven't heard, this manual has been created by the Co-Founders of Autism Level UP! Jac and Amy, an autistic-allistic partnership based in the US, who provide tools and resources to help "level up" the communities awareness and advocacy of us fellow autistics.

"From real awareness all the way through to empowerment and advocacy." https://www.autismlevelup.com/

Last week invited us to facilitate our Break Out Space at their community event held at Fremont Park.
161 people used our space, 1/3 of them adults.
If a community event has a sensory space, they're almost always designed for children. But what about us, late or self diagnosed adults who need a break or a space to regulate? The Break Out Space is designed for all ages and neuro types with a registered counsellor available for further support. Late or self diagnosed adults are often an after thought and without the necessary supports like the Break Out Space, we engage with our communities less and less.
Last week's event reinforced that for me. But I can't do it alone. We need the help of the wider community. Whether it's by helping through donating to our (Deep Seas') GoFundMe, booking the Break Out Space for your community event or donating sensory and fidget tools Deep Seas. We all have a part to play for equity and inclusion now more than ever. ๐Ÿ’›
