One last painting session will see this one resolved!
It's been a journey as I have needed to jump to other works and then return to this one. For that reason it has evolved and changed more than other works, reflecting the influences and events that have occurred in the time. Looking forward to a new canvas.......I love completing paintings but I also starting them.
Have a great weekend!
Congratulations to all the Archibald finalsts today, can only imagine your excitement!
Unfortunately it wasn't my year but I really wanted to thank you all my followers for the love you have showed me and for my self portrait entry this year. Onwards and upwards.....

I'm continuing to work on this background today, which is inspired by the plate I recently found on marketplace. Originally I had planned using a fabric but loved the variety of patterning on this design behind the Dahlia.

Returning to this WIP after completing my self portrait has taken some adjusting. This painting is currently in it's "gawky" phase, it can be challenging as an artist to trust that this stage will pass and with some more painting hours the vision you have will come to fruition.

Plate No.8
This is the final plate but not the final five years represented in my self portrait. The latter are captured in the entirety of the painting itself and are really the culmination of my painting practice from my studio space to date.
However, plate eight is one of the most iconic designs being that of the Blue Willow. This version is based on a Johnson rendition of the classic pattern. This time period is a chapter full of big events in my life - our return to South Australia depicted in the state logo, the purchase and renovation of our second home quite literally referenced here with digger and facade. Finally, covid times with the sun being the symbol for some of the most unique times we all faced.

Plate No.7
The floral motives of the "May" design plate by Middleport Pottery hold one of the busiest 5 years of my life. With the arrival of our second son these years became a bit of a blur with two active toddlers. The second stork and baby, many toys hidden amongst the flowers and also our kitten Ava make an appearance here and pretty much sum up this period. A very happy but tiring stage in my life caring for our growing family.
