June 30 is just a couple of weeks away, and while we hear a lot about the tax effectiveness of structured giving, the deeper rewards of giving tend to attract fewer headlines.
It’s something that personal finance columnist, Noel Whittaker has written about this week in The Advertiser, along with outlining the steps he’s taken with his own giving fund.
While “the numbers speak for themselves,” Noel says, a Sub-fund “truly is the gift that keeps on giving”.
“There is something quietly profound about directing money to causes that you genuinely believe in,” he says. “Rather than a passive transfer of wealth, a charitable foundation turns philanthropy into an active, ongoing conversation – one that can span generations.”
⏰There’s still time to establish a Sub-fund of your own at Foundation SA – we can get you started in 48 hours. You’ll receive the tax-deduction this financial year and have the ability to decide what you’d like to give to at a time that suits you.

Bonding over a shared the belief that ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference,
Pip Lane and Andrew Hunter are using their Sub-Fund at Foundation SA to turn ‘everyday generosity’ into lasting change.
Describing themselves as “ordinary people with no links to the philanthropy world” Pip and Andrew began their structured giving journey with a Gumnut Account. They added to their balance over time until it grew into their own named Sub-Fund, the Better Tomorrow Fund, which supports educational opportunities for First Nations women.
Andrew says that the behind-the-scenes support from the team of philanthropy professionals at Foundation SA team has been invaluable.
“I can’t downplay the logistical benefits,” he says, “the support of the Foundation SA team is super helpful. For Pip and I, knowing that the administration and the due diligence and everything else is covered and running professionally in the background is so reassuring.”

SA Giving Week begins today! We’re so excited to be part of a week that celebrates and encourages local generosity. 🌱
There’s sometimes a misperception that you need millions of dollars to make a difference, but at Foundation SA we know that’s not true.
There are giving options for every situation, whether you’d like to open a Sub-fund of your own or start a Gumnut account with $2,000, give collectively as much or as little as you like to a themed fund like our Neighbourhood Grants or SA Climate & Nature Fund, or participate at a level that suits you with a Giving Circle like Women for Women.
We hope that the events taking place this week help more South Australians learn about the many opportunities for contributing to positive change.

Foundation SA is entering a new era of growth and independence with the installation of our inaugural Board and the roll out of our latest five-year strategy.
With the transition successfully underway to bring all governance and administrative functions to Adelaide, Foundation SA CEO Sophie Doyle says the foundation is ready to step into self-determination.
“Thanks to the support we’ve received over the last five years from our implementation partner and trustee, Australian Communities Foundation, we’re in a very strong position to make the transition to independence. The time is right to make the change with our new five-year strategy setting out the blueprint for the next chapter of our growth and impact as a statewide community foundation.”
