The Ghashghai nomads live mostly in the surroundings of Shiraz, Iran (Persia).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They move twice a year, between the winter pasture near the Persian Gulf and the summer pasture up in the Zagros Mountains where it is much cooler.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The weaving of rugs as well as kilims, bags, ribbons and other decorations is an important contribution to the life of the nomads.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The rugs have a typical red-brown ground color. The pattern is tied from memory and often consists of a centrally placed medallion, repeated in all four corners.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Humans, four legged animals, birds, trees and flowers are popular elements. Other patterns are collected from frescos and columns in Persepolis (Tacht-e-Jamshid in Persia) the ceremonial capital during the Achmenids dynasty (550-330 B.C.).

Ghashghai nomads are also well known for their beautiful saddle bags that are knotted for more practical applications.

A kilim (Azerbaijani: Kilim کیلیم, Turkish: Kilim, Turkmen: Kilim, Persian: گلیم‎ gelīm) is a flat tapestry-woven carpet or rug traditionally produced in countries of the former Persian Empire, including Iran, Azerbaijan, the Balkans and the Turkic countries of Central Asia.

Kilims can be purely decorative or can function as prayer rugs. Modern kilims are popular floor coverings in Western households.

I am delighted to share a weaving process for a Shahsevan Kilim with wonderful bright colors and stunning design.

Shahsevan rug or Shahsevan Kilim is a handmade weaving by the Shahsevans.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Shahsevans (Azerbaijani: Şahsevənlər), are a branch of the Turkic Oghuz groups (Kalafat, 2002), sub-ethnic group of Azerbaijani people, located primarily in Iran and on the territory of the present-day Republic of Azerbaijan (Abdullaiev, 1996). The name Shahsevan means "adherents of the Shah".

The color harmony, geometric and elegant design in this vintage-inspired handmade kilim rug provide many clues to a simple yet rich culture of the nomadic Shahsevans tribe.
