Weβre excited to announce a brand new tangle bin has been installed under Jervois Bridge next to Lartelare Reserve in the Inner Harbour!
If youβre fishing in the area, you now have a convenient spot to dispose of old fishing line and tackle, keeping our waterways cleaner and safer for marine life. π
Make sure to only dispose of fishing litter - bait bags, hooks, line, sinkers etc. We would prefer to keep the general waste for the general waste bins!
This project is proudly supported by a City of Port Adelaide-Enfield grant π

Last week the Adelaide Chapter made a start on the Port River Oyster Reef build, and the juvenile bream are already moving in! ππ¦ͺ
Huge thanks to everyone who helped make it happen and a great start to restoring this oyster reef π
Native oysters, crabs, and more fish are all expected to move in overtime once this new reef is in, boosting fish habitat and water filtration πͺ±π¦ππ¦ͺ

Hitting the beach this holiday season? Look out for seagrass fruits in need of rescue π±πͺ£
Bright green seagrass fruits wash up on beaches around Christmas and New Years. Collect them in a bucket of seawater and drop them off at a seagrass collection eskies at:
β‘οΈ Cruising Yatcht Club of SA, Gate 1
β‘οΈ Semaphore Surf Life Saving Club
β‘οΈ Brighton & Seacliff Yatcht Club
β‘οΈ Aldinga Surf Life Saving Club
Fruits are then matured in seagrass tanks at North Haven, with each fruit producing a single seedling to be replanted as new fish habitat ππ±

Spending the summer fishing around Port Adelaide?
You may have already seen our Tangle Bins around the area, but as summer is fast approaching, here's how to use them properly:
π£ Remove any fishing line offcuts from reels, hooks, and sinkers
ποΈ Place line, hooks, and small tackle straight into the Tangle Bin
π« Do NOT put general rubbish, bait, food scraps, or drink containers in them
Summer = more lines in the water = more responsibility.
If you fish, crab, or drop a line off a jetty β use the bins, tell your mates, and if you see loose line or hooks, pick it up and bin it.
Our Tangle Bins are situated in:
Outer Harbour Lookout
Yitpi Yartapuultiku
Largs Jetty
Semaphore Jetty
Letβs keep Port Adelaide fishable, swimmable, and wildlife-friendly ππ

π Coming This Summer: Musseling Up for Onkaparinga Black Bream! π£
Weβre excited to be launching a new shellfish project to support the Onkaparinga Riverβs black bream by boosting one of their favourite foods β the black pygmy mussel! These little mussels improve water quality as filter-feeders and help grow healthier, stronger bream π¦ͺπ
This summer, OzFish volunteers will install biodegradable mussel mats at three sites in the estuary to help young mussels and other fish prey attach, grow and boost local fish populations.
This project is funded by the City of Onkaparinga and BCF - Boating, Camping, Fishing
