Tom Schipper - Composer

Last summer, I participated in a game music course by .wintory . During the week, we were tasked to write a piece of interactive game music, which we recorded at the at the end of the week. This week was one of the highlights of my career so far, and an incredible experience overall.

During the week, I documented my composition process and experience participating in the course. After sitting on this footage for a while, I’m very proud to share the video documenting my experience. This video takes you through my entire week, thought process, lessons learned, and ultimately the recording session.

I look back on this week very fondly and am very grateful to Austin, my fellow participants, and the organization for making it such an incredible experience. I’m very proud of this video, and I hope you’ll enjoy it.

Update! 👨‍🎓I have recently started teaching a class in Virtual Orchestration at ArteZ Conservatory! We’ve had 2 lessons so far (teaching once a month) and it’s been tremendous fun diving into Virtual Orchestration techniques and tricks I use on a daily basis, as well as have discussions on what you’re actually doing with VO and the amazing possibilities it gives you as a composer!

Did a thing this morning. ❌❌❌
When I signed up for this last year, I knew it could just be my farewell to Amsterdam. And given that I’m moving out in a little over a month, this turned out to be true. It was tough and I was an emotional mess at the end, but I am so proud of myself. Thanks for everything, dear Amsterdam, you have no idea how much I’m going to miss you.

As of the race itself: I held a nice pace for the first half, which felt like I could’ve held it for the whole thing. However, my legs gave up after 20k, and from there it was a struggle 😅 Super proud with this time anyway, especially given the circumstances of the last weeks!

It’s almost time for one of my favorite weeks of the year, where the whole game industry descends on Köln. Can’t wait to attend both and again, to meet old and new friends, and to go on my usual lap(s) through the merch hall! See you there!

What an incredible week this has been. I’m immensely grateful to .wintory and the for a GREAT week of lectures, culminating in the amazing experience of conducting my own work at the ! And where the session and lessons were already invaluable, the TRUE highlight is the people I got to share it with. Thank you all for making this such an inspiring week!

Made it to Baden and got it up and running! The trip here has occupied me so much that I’ve hardly been able to get excited about the week. Now that I’m here and all set up, the excitement is well and truly kicking in. Can’t wait for tomorrow 😍

Beyond excited to announce that I will be attending the in Baden, Austria next week for the ‘Writing and Recording for Games’ masterclass by .wintory ! Can’t wait to learn from Austin, who is one of the composers I see as a huge role model.

During the week, we will be writing a piece, which we’ll then record at the Synchron stage in Vienna! This means I have to bring some sort of workstation. My solution: packing up my PC and driving to Austria 😅. It’s going to be a big adventure, and I can’t wait!

I’ll also be documenting the week for a video on my YouTube channel. If there’s anything you’re particularly curious about, let me know and I’ll see if I can pay some special attention to it.
