From our current exhibition FLOWERS AND TREES
GARDEN by by Marta Zgierska & Mateusz Sarełło
A beautifully handmade book with the very special Japanese Soft, Takeo Pachica paper for the cover and a surrealistic view on flowers combined with sense organs.
Available as regular and special edition. Choice of two different prints.
https://anzenbergergallery-bookshop.com/book/3024/garden-marta_zgierska_&_mateusz_sarełło
On one hand, a man on the edge between a breakup and a new relationship. On the other - a woman trying to mark her presence in the man’s life in order to free him from the toxic past. On one hand, dried bouquets of flowers that never reached the addressee are reborn, creating a chance for a new life together. On the other - empty vases impose a more or less polished form on this life, inscribing it in certain conventions.
As François Cheval writes in the essay accompanying the publication: “A body on a quest for its own reconstruction is what Marta Zgierska and Mateusz Sarełło are inviting us to consider. Despite the face’s withdrawal, despite the anonymity, the dispersion resulting from the dismemberment doesn’t tell us that it has disappeared. The numerous details arranged into bouquets place, by contrast, this singular experience as the founding of a new horizon.
In this strange Garden, the fantastic, surreal component makes this short and thickset photographic story a tragicomedy of the body. Photography, and this is one of its rare qualities, has the capacity to model flesh, to make it into a Dionysiac incident. To the real world’s agitation, the medium opposes a symbolic, grotesque violence by exploring new and surprising forms. Do Marta Zgierska and Mateusz Sarełło hope that a happy end may arise from this monstrous collage, that a radiant future can be rebuilt? And how can the details of a body, which is experienced in everyday life, as it is experienced in pleasure, transform into a founding event, above the ruins of past morbidity?”

💥BOOK OF THE DAY💥
WHAT REMAINS IN THE END by Zsolt Balazs (signed)
www.anzenbergergallery-bookshop.com
The photography of Zsolt Balázs has always explored the perseverance in human nature, often in relation to water. In his first photobook What Remains in the End he concentrates on how the agricultural communities of once highly productive lands struggle for perseverance in the face of drying out and subsequent desertification. The book uses the Great Hungarian Plain as a case study, which makes up roughly half of Hungary’s territory. This process could lead to the complete collapse of agriculture in the region within a few years unless irrigation canal systems are constructed. State and EU funding for such infrastructure has been allocated several times, but instead of being used for professional interventions, it has largely disappeared due to corruption.
„Zsolt Balázs‘ series attempts to build a complex testament from photos taken in split seconds. Concentrated attention bits saved into photographs that depict a long process that can be measured in human generations. The series captures a time period, glimpses of landscapes, faces, situations, and through this, the changes in our natural environment, human destinies and community struggles. It is objective reporting and lyrical confession at the same time.“

⭐️BOOK OF THE DAY⭐️
USSR 1991 by Keizo Kitajima (signed)

In January 1991, Keizo Kitajima began a year-long series for the Japanese magazine Asahi Graph, traveling to all fifteen republics of the Soviet Union accompanied by the journalist Kazumasa Nishioka he unexpectedly found himself documenting the final months of the USSR. Only days after the final installment of the series was published in December 1991, the Soviet Union officially ceased to exist. This 2025 publication of „USSR 1991“ is part of an ongoing re-examination of Kitajima’s past work, following books such as „European Diary 1983-1984“ and „New York“ As part of this process, Kitajima decided to pair his USSR 1991 photographs with a series he shot between 1983 and 1984 in various Eastern European cities.

UNCHARTED + by Wang Juyan (signed)
www.anzenbergergallery-bookshop.com
„Uncharted+“ continues to carry the dystopian character of Wang Juyan’s work. As indicated in the title, the book features a series of uncharted landscapes, by their physical existence or by digital collages, from Wang’s project 2084, 2085 and 2086. Somehow, seeing from above, the perspective always seems dwelling with power. „Uncharted+“ is inspired from the ambiguity of power of aerial images, which contains no liner narrative but monumental and metaphorical landscapes.
Born in Beijing, Wang Juyan is an image artist currently based in London. Wang earned his BA in London College of Communication and has exhibited widely between China and Europe, including Foam Museum (Amsterdam), Beaconsfield Gallery (London), Base Milano (Milan), Singapore International Photography Festival (Singapore) etc. and was selected as Foam Talent in 2017. The unique visual language of Wang’s work heightens the ambiguities and the historical sublime in his large-scale landscape.

BOOK OF THE DAY 🔥🏝️⛵️
SUMMER CAMP by Mark Steinmetz
www.anzenbergergallery-bookshop.com
Our newest monograph on the work of photographer Mark Steinmetz is a collection of photographs that capture the spirit of youth during trips spent away at a summer camp.
„Two projects I focused on were little league baseball [The Players published by Nazraeli Press in 2015] and summer camps. Every year, from spring into summer, one would lead into another and certain things never changed…At summer camp, you have sleeping bags, cabins and camp res. There isn’t much difference between them in 1990 or 1965.
I like that time of age, too. There’s a kind of grave maturity developing at around 11 years old. When a little kid laughs or cries, it doesn’t have real resonance, whereas if someone has these emotions between eight and 12, there’s a poignancy to it.
When they become adults, it’s just not the same. Many of these photos are about the predicament of being a kid put into a certain situation. In one picture, these girls who have been so horrible to each other all summer are now parting – and the depth of their love just gushes out. It’s almost excruciating...“ — Mark Steinmetz, for Huck Mag

BOOK OF THE DAY 🦌🌲
SUMMER OF THE FAWN by Alain Laboile
COLLECTOR’S EDITION with print Motif »Lili« (2013)
https://anzenbergergallery-bookshop.com/book/2085/summer_of_the_fawn_(last_copy_of_book_+_signed_print)-alain_laboile
At the latest since the great success of his book At the Edge of the World (Kehrer 2015), the French photographer Alain Laboile is well known around the world among connoisseurs of black-and-white photography. In his new photobook, Summer of the Fawn, he once again provides insight into the free and nearly fairytale-like life of his family in a small village in the southwest of France. Far away from social constraints, school stress, Facebook & Co., it always seems to be summer here, and his six children frolic barefoot in an enchanted garden, in which one encounters cats, grass snakes, and even a fawn. Nevertheless, rules do indeed exist, even in fairytales – we thus also see how the children are homeschooled: sensibly and lovingly, and often outdoors. Summer of the Fawn is a beautiful, vivacious, and at the same time melancholic ode to childhood and life.
