Every cup of coffee has a story. This one begins in the birthplace of Coffea arabica. ☕
When the Teppi Green Coffee Estate planned its first expansion in the mid-1980s, an OPEC Fund loan helped make it possible. The financing supported the expansion of high-quality coffee production across 5,000 hectares, while also investing in the roads, water and power services, processing stations, equipment, technical assistance and training needed to support long-term growth.
Today, Ethiopia produces around five percent of the world's coffee on more than 700,000 hectares of land. The coffee economy supports the livelihoods of more than 15 million people, including more than four million smallholder farmers directly involved in the sector. 🇪🇹

At the OPEC Fund, our past shapes who we are today and inspires who we can become tomorrow. 💡
In our fourth decade, we placed at the heart of development while continuing to broaden our support across , , and , and institutional partnerships. We launched the Energy for the Poor initiative, signed our first teacher training, geothermal and wind energy projects, supported clean cooking and water supply, and established the Young Professional Development Program. The decade culminated in the OPEC Fund’s 40th anniversary, marking four decades of partnership and impact.
As we mark 50 years of the OPEC Fund, we look back at the milestones and moments that have shaped half a century of service to countries most in need. While the institution has evolved, one principle has remained constant: solidarity. The same commitment that stood at the birth of the OPEC Fund continues to guide our work today. 🤝
