The 3rd Symposium on Oceanography has successfully concluded, bringing together excellent speakers for a vibrant exchange of ideas in ocean science.

Science thrives when women stand together!

MOVIE proudly celebrates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science with this inspiring group of female scientists driven by curiosity, strong voices and an amazing spirit of teamwork.

The group hosted a CARD-FISH training workshop led by Chie Amano, brining together members of the Bio-Oceanography and Marine Biology unit for deep dives into single-cell microbial ecology.

📌 New publication in Limnology and Oceanography by Heitger (.he) et al., reveals that, despite their low abundance, particle-associated microbes are key contributors to organic carbon degradation in the deep North Atlantic.

Manuela Quiroga Pérez successfully defended her master thesis, where she investigated the microbiomes of restored and native Atlantic soft corals. Congratulations! 🪸

We are thrilled to welcome as a Senior Research Fellow in the !
Valerie is an Environmental Microbial Bioinformatician whose research focuses on the evolution of microbial metabolism in extreme environments. By bridging fieldwork, experimental microbiology and computational modeling, her work reveals how microorganisms influence and respond to environmental changes across ecological and evolutionary scales.
Valerie is a strong advocate of equity and inclusion in science, drawing from her own experience as an underrepresented scientist.
