Tourism photography meets fine art 14/02/2014

A great article about KORA and how we all started!

http://inventures.eu/tourism-photography-meets-fine-art

Tourism photography meets fine art Georg Gassauer's story needs accompaniment by a map. A native of Bad Gastein, a historic spa town near Salzburg and later to be the subject of his first KORA project, he didn't grow up there. Since age two, he’s been on the move thanks to his father, a hotel director, attending American or English-s...

Symon Kliman 27/11/2013

The Partisans, celebrated as heros under communism these men and women quickly fell out of favor after the velvet revolution. Symon Klimans collage underneath the MOST SNP stirred a discussion about communities, imagined or real!

If we weren't taking photos we were here, 2:Pod Kamenným stromom 18/10/2013

EN: Basement cafe by day, outdoor bar and BBQ by night, the selection of steaks, fish and beer only add to the summery atmosphere.

Long Boarding in Koliba 17/10/2013

Peter Suga and his friends took us to the best Long boarding spot in Bratislava, in the Koliba neighborhood. Although the long boarding scene is still in its infancy it is growing fast!

Urban Gardening and Pop up Cafes 16/10/2013

One of the things that we've come across in Bratislava is the passion of young people doing what they can to improve their lives and the communities that they live in. There is a real sense of activism here which is very different to that in Vienna. This is mostly due to the fact that the city of bratislava does not have the resources to fund many social or community projects. Rather than sulking at the situation these young bratislavans do what they can. One such example is Sandra and her husband Michael and her community gardening initiative.

Just to rewind quickly. After they moved to Amsterdam and knowing absolutely no one or nothing about the city they found a small community gardening centre in their neighborhood, this quite literally changed their lives.

As a student of urban sociology and on the lookout for a masters thesis, Sandra set up a community gardening centre on a plot of land right behind the police station. Set up in April 2013 they now have 44 small boxes of earth spread out in this plot of land. Each box belongs to different inhabitant in the neighborhood. There are some people who have literally lived side by side for over 40 years and never met. Now, through their common interest in gardening, or, that there is finally something to do, they have become friends.

Plot owners can plant what they want, usually though it's just a few tomatoes and bell peppers. Every second Sunday of the month Sandra and Veronica, a friend and helper who lives in Vienna, organise a pop up cafe where they serve what grows in the garden to passers-by or friends.

When asked why Sandra and her husband, both 24, set up the project the answer was (masters thesis aside) "We wanted to show Bratislavans and ourselves that social projects can tighten the fabric of urban communities"

A behind the scenes look at how the cover picture was actually made... Two Skoda's, Eight Loops around the most SNP and lots of patience!

The Miletičova market is a small treasure for those looking to go off the beaten track and mingle with some real Bratislavans. Every Saturday the market bursts with eager shoppers looking for fresh fruit and vegetables... the shop keepers aren't too fond of photographers though ;)

If we weren't taking photos we would be here part 1: Funki Punki 09/10/2013

Funki Punki: The IKEA-free coffee shop with exceptional coffee, experimental crepes: The Nutella crepe was obviously a favourite but then so was the Gooseliver Pate. See you soon!

Bratislava is littered with Tags. Near the bike shop on zidovska street we found some fixie enthusiasts who were happy to explain the phenomena to us.
