Since the start of the year, two jackdaws have also been coming to the Snapshotcrows buffet. They are smaller than crows and supposedly even smarter.

Crows. Truly delightful creatures with extremely funny and endearing quirks. Most crows are afraid of EVERYTHING😱! I think they're even scared of themselves🤭. This one dared to approach the food bowl, pecked at a chicken heart, and then jumped high into the air in fear🤨. Yet another true snapshotcrow🤣

What looks like a cyborg eye is actually the nictitating membrane – a third eyelid, a thin, light, and transparent membrane that slides horizontally over the eyeball. It protects against injury, dirt, and dehydration during flight or fights. This "windshield wiper" function cleans the eye and keeps it moist, allowing the bird to see even with the nictitating membrane closed.

After New Year's Eve, a few birds flew to my feeding station that I'd never seen there before. The jackdaw and a gull are, of course, very welcome.🤗
