Austria. Bo dlaczego nie? Austriacki zespół Wildhunt 2 stycznia 2026 roku, wydał 2 stycznia 2026 roku, przy współpracy z Jawbreaker Records, swój drugi album, zatytułowany: ,, Aletheia”. Nic nie oczekując, zakładam słuchami, aby zagłębić się w ich album.
,,Touching the Ground” to dobrze stopniowany buid-up gitarowy, również z gitarą akustyczną. Pojawia się marszówka. Gitary jedna nie milkną, a wręcz przeciwnie. Tempo wzrasta, pojawia się bas, a riffy są bardziej thrash-owe, jednak mimo to działają na mnie hipnotyzująco. Genialne wprowadzenie.
,,The Holy Pale” dostarcza koleją falę riffów. Przypomina mi trochę niemiecką szkołę thrash-u, a w tle dobra solówka w stylu heavy. Efekt trasu działa, dopiero wokalista w pewien sposób mnie z niego wyrywa. Breakdowny są tu niezłe, pierwsze skojarzenia, dobry stary Megadeath. Popisy gitarowe znowu na wysokim poziomie. Wszystko się potem powtarza, ale to akurat nie jest z mojej strony zarzut. Wokal stawia na opowieść.
,,Made Man” to dość wymowne gitarowe wprowadzenie. Dynamiczna perkusja z basem, znany wokal, ale wszystkiego razem, słucha mi się z przyjemnością. Moment ciszy i pojawiają się zupełnie inne riffy, bas gra wirtuozersko, a perkusja też jest inna, w tle solówka. Czy to źle? Dla mnie nie, gdyż akurat ja zawsze chętnie chłonę coś, co nie jest robione na siłę. Instrumentalnie ta kompozycja podniosła poziom tego albumu jeszcze wyżej. Jeszcze te nagłe zmiany tempa. Nic dziwnego utwór ma prawie dziewięć minut, które nie wiem, kiedy minęły.
,,Kanashibari” to mała namiastka sonicznej uczty. Tak to interpretują moje uszy. ,,In Frozen Dreams” zaczyna budować ponownie nastrój. Wybudzając mnie na moment z transu. Wokalista przedstawia składnie następną historię.
Najmocniejszym ogniwem albumu ,, Aletheia” są instrumenty. Różnorodność gitarowych riffów oraz innych solówek, wprowadza mnie w stan bliski ekstazie. Gitara basowa ma tez w tym swój udział, oraz wkomponowane w to wszystko partie perkusyjne. Wokal wraz z wokali pomocnicze oraz momenty ,,chóralne”, to elementy nie zawsze mi pasują, co nie znaczy, że są złe, nic podobnego. Nie mój typ, słuchało mi się ich raz z przyjemnością, a raz z racji przyzwyczajenia. Okładka dobra. Tak czy inaczej Wildhunt udowodnił mi, że, można zagrać progresyjny heavy/thrash metal. Polecam przesłuchać, bo uważam, że warto.

Wildhunt – Aletheia (2026)

Austria. Why not? The Austrian band Wildhunt released their second album, Aletheia, on January 2nd, 2026, in cooperation with Jawbreaker Records. Expecting nothing in particular, I put on my headphones and dive into the album.
“Touching the Ground” is a well paced guitar build up, including some acoustic lines. A marching rhythm emerges. The guitars don’t fade away quite the opposite. The tempo rises, the bass comes in, and the riffs lean more toward thrash, yet they still feel hypnotic to me. A brilliant introduction.
“The Holy Pale” brings another wave of riffs. It reminds me a bit of the German school of thrash, with a solid heavy style solo in the background. The thrash effect works well, though the vocalist pulls me out of that trance for a moment. The breakdowns are solid; my first thought is old, good Megadeth. The guitar showmanship is once again top tier. Everything repeats later, but that is not a criticism from me. The vocals lean into storytelling.
“Made Man” opens with an expressive guitar lead in. Energetic drums with bass, a familiar vocal tone and altogether, it is just enjoyable to listen to. Then comes a moment of silence, followed by entirely different riffs. The bass plays with virtuosity, the drums shift character, and there is a solo in the background. Is that a terrible thing? For me, no. I gladly absorb anything that does not feel forced. Instrumentally, this track pushes the album to an even higher level. And those sudden tempo changes… No wonder the piece is almost nine minutes long. I barely noticed how they passed.
“Kanashibari” feels like a small taste of a sonic feast, at least that’s how my ears interpret it. “In Frozen Dreams” begins building the atmosphere once again, waking me from the trance for a moment. The vocalist coherently introduces the next story.
The strongest aspect of Aletheia is the instrumentation. The variety of guitar riffs and solos brings me close to a state of euphoria. The bass plays a significant role as well, together with the drum parts woven into the whole. The vocals, along with backing vocals and occasional “choral” moments, do not always resonate with me, but that does not mean they’re bad. Not at all. They are simply not my style; sometimes I enjoyed them, sometimes out of habit. The cover art is good. Either way, Wildhunt proved to me that progressive heavy/thrash metal can be done and done well. I recommend giving it a listen because I honestly think it is worth it.

For more than two decades, Up The Hammers has stood as a sanctuary for traditional, epic and underground heavy metal and 2027 will be no exception. Here are the bands joining us so far:

One of the greatest bands ever to perform at our festival returns to Athens to take the stage once again. A legendary name in American heavy metal, their previous appearance left an indelible mark and we are honored to welcome them back for another unforgettable show.

🔥 SUMERLANDS (US)
Modern heavy metal perfection. With their powerful riffs, soaring vocals and classic spirit, Sumerlands have quickly established themselves as one of the finest torchbearers of contemporary traditional metal.

🔥 ASTAROTH (IT)
A truly historic moment: the first reunion show of the legendary Italian epic metal band. Astaroth’s cult legacy and extremely rare appearances make this a special event for fans of classic epic metal.

🔥 SARACEN (UK)
Masters of atmospheric and melodic heavy metal, Saracen bring decades of history and timeless songs that helped shape the British epic metal sound.

🔥 SLAUTER XSTROYES (US)
Cult US power metal band whose rare appearances make every show something special. Expect razor-sharp riffs and pure underground metal energy.

🔥 PAGAN ALTAR (UK)
A cornerstone of epic doom metal and one of the most respected names in the underground. Their unique atmosphere and classic songs continue to inspire generations of metal fans.

🔥 OVERLORDE (US)
True American epic metal royalty. Overlorde carry the torch of classic US power metal with majestic riffs and heroic spirit.

🔥 PHANTOM (US)
Power/speed metal band from New York returning after a long absence from the stage. A rare chance to witness a true cult act of the US metal scene.

🔥 FIRMAMENT (DE)
For Centuries Alive is, for us, one of the best albums of 2025. As long as bands like Firmament continue to emerge, our scene has nothing to fear.

🔥 WILDHUNT (AT)
Blending power metal, technical thrash and mysticism, Wildhunt deliver a sound that fits perfectly with the spirit of Up The Hammers.

🔥 TEMPLAR (SE)
Swedish heavy metal in the classic tradition. Templar bring powerful riffs, epic storytelling and the unmistakable Scandinavian heavy metal spirit, as true descendants of the legendary Swedish metal bands of the 80s.

🔥 REDSHARK (ES)
High-speed heavy metal straight from Spain. Redshark combine sharp riffs, speed and attitude into pure metal aggression.

🔥 AXEON (GR)
Hailing from the island of Crete, Axeon are one of the most exciting newcomers from Greece in years. After hearing songs from their upcoming album, we were blown away. Axeon represent the future of the Greek metal scene and we are proud to welcome them to the Up The Hammers stage.
