Nel nostro laboratorio all'Istituto Italiano di Cultura, abbiamo usato l'Atlante delle emozioni umane di Tiffany Watt Smith per esplorare un territorio diverso.

Trattandosi di un laboratorio di scrittura creativa la geografia fisica dell'Italia non è sicuramente il centro del nostro lavoro. Infatti lavoriamo anche con il paesaggio emozionale che portiamo dentro di noi quando pensiamo a questo paese.

Come ci sentiamo quando ricordiamo una piazza, una esperienza, un sapore?

Quali emozioni vivono nel nostro corpo quando immaginiamo un posto che amiamo o che abbiamo lasciato perchè non ci faceva stare bene?

Abbiamo imparato a mostrare sulla carta quello che sentivamo.

Perché anche l'Italia non è solo una mappa geografica, ma per que che mi riguarda come scrittrice e mediatrice culturale, un atlante emozionale.

Unico per ogni persona che la incontra, la parla, la ricorda.

Grazie all'Istituto Italiano di Cultura per aver creato uno spazio dove potessimo esplorare questa intimità insieme.

Your phone is full of travel photos. What if you brought those photos somewhere else instead?

There were moments you wanted to hold onto and places you promised yourself you'd remember.

But screens can fade, or we simply collect them.

What if you brought those photos somewhere else instead?

What if we could relive these moments by writing them down? In our own way, starting with a photo, so we don't lose all the details the camera missed?

Somewhere tangible where you could return to whenever you need to feel what you felt.
We're holding a space to do this together to transform those digital moments into something on paper.

Into a journal that actually remembers for you.

Ever heard of the third trip?

We travel three times. Once when we plan the trip. Once when we’re actually there. And once after, when we try to remember it.

That third one is the part we usually lose. We take so many photos. We come home. And somehow the memories just stay stuck in our phones, getting fuzzier every month.

I built The Traveling Pen for that third journey. You bring a few photos from a recent trip, and we use them as a starting point for guided writing exercises. The moments start coming back. Not just what happened, but how it felt to be there.

And then I’ll show you some simple analogue rituals you can bring on your next trip. Small ways to notice more while you’re there, so you have more to remember later.
You don’t need any writing experience. Just a few photos and some curiosity to reconnect with what you actually lived, not just what you photographed.
