Cicadas Collective & Yein Lee
Dispaused Script

This event is part of the Tuesday@Secession series and takes place in the Secession garden. The bar will be open from 6 pm. In the event of rain, the programme will take place indoors.

Cicadas Collective presents a story emerging in space made in collaboration with Yein Lee. “Dispaused Script” is a live storytelling unfolding in a staged setting. The writing is informed by the memories of the sister of one of the artists, a former s*x worker who was performing as a karaoke hostess. Through the mythical figure of the mermaid, which serves as a metaphor for the fantastical attributes projected on the s*x industry, the work explores the act of taking care of each other. By simulating particular emotional states, the use of special-effects machines reproduce the hyperreal figure of the mermaid worker and serve as narrators of the story.

Extending Cicadas Collective’s ongoing interest in cinema as well as Yein Lee’s interest in ephemerality and spatial instability, the presentation involves special effects such as smoke, fog, light, and snow, as protagonists. Situated on stage, these devices assume agency, presence and bodies of their own, unfolding in dialogue with the reading.

Through a powerful performative reading, Boukhari reflected on exile and the systems that reduce human presence to documents, permissions, and categories. Negative Bodies explored how some bodies are made hyper-visible through suspicion, bureaucracy, and the constant demand to prove belonging.

Negative Bodies

This event is part of the Tuesday@Secession series and takes place in the Secession garden. The bar will be open from 6 pm. In the event of rain, the programme will take place indoors.

“Negative Bodies” is a short performative reading by Nisrine Boukhari. Through fragmented language, the work reflects on exile and the systems that reduce human presence to documents, proofs, permissions, and categories. The negative body is not invisible. It is often hyper-visible, but through suspicion, projection, documentation, and administrative imagination. It appears as a lack, a question, a file waiting to be completed, a disturbance in the grammar of belonging. The negative body is the one asked to prove itself repeatedly because its presence is already treated as insufficient.

The artist talk will be in English.

Last Tuesday, the Secession garden became a space for drawing, erasing, and collective experimentation with lossy.club by Seth Weiner.

Participants used ephemeral digital lines that appeared, shifted, and disappeared across the Secession façade, exploring memory, touch, and the materiality of the screen. The evening concluded with a conversation with the artist about the work and its ideas.

Exhibition tour and conversation with .giannouras

The film works presented in Women I loved 내가 사랑한 여자들 offer a series of personal and candid images of women in Mire Lee’s life. In different ways, they all occupy an important place in the artist’s work and, at the same time, reveal the complex interconnections between morality, love, and violence in the present.

Following the exhibition tour with Secession curator Haris Giannouras, there will be an informal discussion about the accompanying exhibition publication.

The tour is free of charge. No registration required.
