I re-posted a short piece I wrote some time ago about seeing+hearing Rhys Chatham's Guitar Trio for the first time, at Max's Kansas City in 1979. The band that night was entitled 'Meltdown!' - just a few weeks after the nuclear near-disaster at Three Mile Island in Harrisburg, PA. The ecstatic aural psychoacoustic magnificence of that evening - awash in overtones - prompted its own, quite different sort of never-heard-anything-like-it meltdown!

Farewell to an American Master, Ken Jacobs, who died last night at 92. My professor in the 70s, occasional colleague in the 90s, TriBeCa neighbor since then, and yes, friend. Leah and I treasured every visit with Ken and Flo these last years. He couldn't live without her, following on so quickly... Cinematic giant. 🎥🎞️📽️💔
