Spectacular Space Images:
After months of testing and calibration, the new Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile has released its first breathtaking images of the cosmos. The images reveal star-forming regions, distant galaxies, and bright stars within the Milky Way.
The U.S.-based observatory features a massive telescope and the largest digital camera ever built. Together, they aim to create vast datasets containing around 40 billion celestial objects.
Scientists hope the observatory will provide new insights into the physical nature of dark matter and dark energy. Another key goal is to identify asteroids that may be approaching Earth and could pose a potential threat.

Hubble Reveals Stunning Hourglass Nebula Around a Dying Star!

This stunning sky photo captures several amazing sights. On the left, you can see the bright, hazy band of our Milky Way Galaxy. On the right, a group of straight, parallel streaks shows Starlink satellites passing overhead. Many fainter satellite trails also cross the sky in different directions. Two short, bright streaks are meteors, most likely from the Eta Aquariid meteor shower. Near the lower right, the bright spot is the planet Venus, glowing brightly as it reflects sunlight — just like the satellites. The image is a combination of several photos taken over a few hours on May 4, near the Limay River in Argentina.

Astronomy Picture of the Day

Sunsets look different on Mars compared to Earth. Two photos of the Sun at sunset—one taken from Earth and one from Mars—show the difference. Both images were made the same size for a fair comparison.
The Sun looks a bit smaller from Mars because Mars is about 50% farther from the Sun than Earth is. But the biggest difference is the color. On Earth, sunsets usually look orange or red. On Mars, the sunset looks blue near the Sun. Scientists think this might be because of the way dust in the Martian air scatters light, but they’re not completely sure.
The Earth sunset photo was taken in March 2012 from Marseille, France. The Mars sunset was taken in April 2015 by NASA’s Curiosity rover in Gale Crater.

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has captured a breathtaking view of a newborn star. The image showcases HH 30, a protostar located in the Ta**us Molecular Cloud, surrounded by a protoplanetary disk and shooting out powerful jets. Situated about 450 light-years from Earth, this remarkable scene provides a rare and detailed look into the early stages of star and planet formation, offering new insight into the workings of our universe.
