Last week, the UN International Procurement Seminar took place in Vienna, hosted by Czechia, Hungary, and Slovakia, with a focus on strengthening engagement between the United Nations and suppliers from Central Europe.

UNOPS was pleased to participate with a delegation from the Procurement Group at our Copenhagen Headquarters, alongside colleagues from the Austria Multi-Country Office responsible for partnerships and procurement.

The event brought together approximately 140 companies and nearly 80 representatives from 14 UN entities and related international organizations. Over the course of the two-day seminar, around 350 pre-arranged one-to-one meetings were held, creating valuable opportunities for dialogue, collaboration, and partnership development.

Thank you to the organizers, participants, and partners who contributed to a productive and successful event. We look forward to continuing to strengthen engagement with suppliers across the region and advancing our shared development objectives.

Building on the momentum of World Environment Day, one message is clear: climate action starts with turning awareness into tangible results.

At the Zero Waste Forum in Istanbul held last week, on 6-7 June, international participants, government partners, and key stakeholders came together to address waste management challenges, share knowledge, and advance innovative solutions.

UNOPS was proud to participate as part of the UN Türkiye Country Team, engaging with the public, field experts, government representatives, and development partners.

We showcased our expertise in sustainable procurement, project management, and resilient, gender-responsive infrastructure, supporting Türkiye’s recovery, resilience, and development priorities.

The active participation of young professionals from the UNOPS Türkiye team underscored the important role of youth in driving innovation and accelerating climate and sustainability efforts across the region.

🌊 Blueing Two Seas: Innovation and Partnership for Transboundary Waters

More than 2,000 delegates from 186 countries gathered this past week in a powerful spirit of ambition and pragmatism to welcome the massive $3.9 billion replenishment, officially launching the final sprint toward our 2030 climate and nature goals.

Acting with purpose and unity is exactly what UNOPS Austria brought to the table. Alongside the World Bank, UNEP, and the Tehran Convention Secretariat, we co-hosted the crucial side event: "Blueing Two Seas: Innovation and Partnership for Transboundary Waters."

The Black Sea and the Caspian Sea are two of the world’s most ecologically stressed inland seas. UNOPS is supporting regional cooperation to address pollution in the Black Sea, strengthening governments and the private sector's capacities while advancing a shared framework for a cleaner and healthier marine environment.

Representing UNOPS, Director Simonetta Siligato joined global environmental leaders on the high-level panel to discuss how we turn transboundary cooperation into concrete, on-the-ground action.

This World Environment Day 🌍, the message is clear: means turning awareness into action to address the environmental challenges we face.

Across the Black Sea region, pollution continues to threaten marine ecosystems, biodiversity, and the livelihoods of coastal communities.

Through the Blueing the Black Sea (BBSEA) Regional Program, governments, international partners, public institutions, and local innovators are working together to reduce pollution and support a healthier, more resilient Black Sea.
Funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by UNOPS on behalf of the World Bank Group, the initiative supports collective efforts toward a shared framework for monitoring, reducing pollution, and protecting biodiversity in the Black Sea region.
