New doc project in the making ...

Most drones shoot with built-in cameras. We fly a Nikon ZR with RED codec, real sensor, real image quality – mounted on a custom FPV cinema drone.

The result is footage that matches seamlessly with your ground-level material. No color grading gymnastics to match two different cameras. No compromises on image quality just because a shot needs to be captured from the air.

There's a reason cinematographers keep going back to vintage glass. No modern lens can fully replicate the organic, slightly imperfect character of old Leitz glass, that gentle roll-off, the way it renders skin tones, the soul it adds to every frame.

We run our full set of vintage Leica M lenses on the Nikon ZR via adapter. The result is a retro aesthetic that pairs beautifully with one of the most modern sensors available today. For shots with real character.

The Nikon ZR is already one of the most capable cameras on the market. RED codec in a body that fits in your jacket. But we didn't stop there.

With a PL mount and our set of cinema lenses, we get a sharp, neutral image with full control in post. The PL mount also features drop-in filter slots – no messing around on set. The Tilta cage makes the whole rig modular and scalable, from a minimal handheld setup to a fully built cinema configuration with matte box and wireless follow focus.

We use Nikon DSLRs ever since .media.studio not just for photography but mainly for filming. They never had a great reputation for filming due to handling issues, but we have always loved the signal that comes out of our D800s and D850s, and we still use them to this day. As we also produce a lot of our videos on RED, the launch of the ZR is what we have always wished for, at least .brugger, our Nikon fanboy. So let's see what this thing can actually do ...

Something in the making ...

2024 is a year in which we fulfilled a lot of dreams we had for a long, long time.

Having a feature documentary in Banff was definitely one of them. This year we were invited to screen "Via Sedna" at this prestigious festival, competing against the best sports and nature documentaries from around the world.

And since Canada is not exactly around the corner, we took a deep dive and stayed for 11 days. It was great to have time to watch over 50 films, go hiking and network at the many get-togethers. At this point we really would like to mention and thank the "Austrian Cultural Forum Ottawa" which is part of the
Austrian Embassy Canada (Austria in Canada) , who supported our trip.

In short, .... was one of the best festival experiences we have ever had. The Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival , to give it its full name, really knows its stuff. Thanks to all the staff and volunteers who made it possible.
