TEDx Talks 08/05/2026

Today, the world celebrates a landmark: Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday. 🎂🌳

For 100 years, he has been more than just a voice; rather a conscience, reminding us that "nature is our greatest ally." We must first learn to truly see the world around us — especially the parts we’ve long ignored.

In this spirit of his mission to protect our planet's hidden wonders, our latest TEDxLinz talk dives into one of the most misunderstood landscapes on Earth: Peatlands.

While we often look to the vast forests, Ann Christin Kornelsen reveals that the humble, "messy" wetland actually stores more carbon than all the world’s forests combined. As described by Sir David - they are the "extra lungs" of our planet. Yet they are disappearing faster than we can protect them.

Now, it’s our turn to protect the parts of it we’ve finally learned to see.

Let’s celebrate a century of inspiration by looking a little closer at the ground beneath our feet. 💚

Four new talks. One for every kind of curious. 🎙️

It's easy to get lost in the noise of a busy week. Sometimes, the best way to regain momentum is to step outside our own expertise — and listen to a someone who quietly challenges everything we assumed we knew.

Whether you have 15 minutes between meetings or a quiet moment in the evening, we hope these ideas provide the spark you need to finish the week strong.

Here's what's waiting for you:

🌿 The 'wasteland' that could help save us all
Ann Christin Kornelsen on peatlands — and why the most powerful climate solution on Earth has been quietly sitting beneath our feet all along.

🏙️ Redesigning Production and Place: Can Technology Reconnect Us?
Kate Armstrong brings forward a beautiful idea of reimagining our cities. Blending global technology with local craftsmanship, she shows us how we can transition from being passive consumers to active creators of the places we call home.

🌳 What My Father’s Death Taught Me About Life
Matthias Rettenbacher on legacy — what we inherit, what we carry, and what it means to consciously choose what we pass on.

🤝 How Social Media Undermines Democracy
Michael Kaufmann on the question nobody in our generation wants to answer honestly: are we the most informed people in history — or the most clueless?

Four talks. Four completely different worlds. All worth your time.

What if social media could actually strengthen democracy... instead of threatening it? 🌐

✨ New TED talk just dropped!

"Putting the Social Back into Social Media" — Mikkeline Sofie Skjerning Thomsen (Partner - Os & Data)

Disinformation. Hate speech. Retention algorithms. The threats to our democracies online are real, and Mikkeline has spent a decade researching them.

But here's the twist: she's still a believer. A social media missionary, even.

Because with the right designs, we still have a chance to build the digital future the internet once promised. 🌍

🎧 18 minutes that might change how you think about your feed.

As extreme temperatures become more common, heating and cooling are no longer just about comfort. They are about safety and survival.
Today, about 40 percent of energy-related greenhouse gas emissions come from heating. At the same time, we are producing more clean electricity from wind and solar than ever before.
The problem is timing. When we cannot use that energy right away, we often waste it.
Drawing on Finland’s experience with the Sand Battery, Tommi shows how sand-based thermal energy storage can store excess wind and solar power as heat for industries and district heating networks. The technology is simple, reliable, and built from common materials, yet its impact could be global.
Tommi Eronen is the CEO and Co-Founder of Night Energy [/ ], the company behind Finland’s groundbreaking Sand Battery. An expert in heat transfer and storage modeling, he earned his Master of Science in Power Plant Engineering from Tampere University of Technology in 2017. Driven by a passion for practical engineering solutions to the climate crisis and biodiversity loss, Tommi focuses on turning innovative ideas into real-world energy systems. Outside work, he is a passionate cyclist dreaming of a round-the-world trip and enjoys ice swimming and free diving.

This week, our Green Weeks at Dynatrace kicked off for the second time.
Colleagues from our local offices joining globally in the next three weeks. One shared goal: to come together and actually do something for the environment — not just talk about it, but create awareness, learn from each other, and take action.
What I value most about this initiative are the conversations it sparks. Sometimes they’re critical, and that’s not just okay — it’s important.
One comment from a colleague has always stayed with me:
„I started paying more attention to myself and doing something good for me — eating healthier, moving more, and shifting my focus from consumption to shared experiences. Only afterwards did I realize how closely connected that is to sustainability.“
I find that so beautiful.
Because sustainability has a positive impact on so many levels — whether it’s your own health, or simply getting clearer on what truly fulfills you.
Sometimes the most meaningful change starts from the inside out.

🎬 Weekend Plans: Sorted.

Two powerful new talks from Common Grounds 2026 at TEDxLinz just hit the web, and they are the perfect way to spend 30 minutes of your weekend.
One explores the future of our planet; the other, the future of how we treat each other. 🌍❤️

⏳ How to stop wasting clean energy
Tommi Eronen tackles our biggest green energy hurdle: Storage. Ever wonder why we sometimes turn off wind turbines even when it’s windy? Tommi has a "crazy" solution involving one of the most common materials on Earth. It’s simple, it’s scalable, and it might just change how we heat our homes forever.

🎵 The Power of Small Encounters
Adetayo "Tutipsy" Manuwa shares a deeply personal story about moving from Lagos to Germany and finding "home" in the most unexpected place. It’s a beautiful reminder of how music and a few "repeated small moments" can break down the tallest walls of prejudice. If you need a reason to smile today, this is it.
