The artistic works presented in this context by S()fia Braga, Joshua Citarella, Jakob Ganslmeier & Ana Zibelnik, Zarina Nares, and Frida Orupabo, investigate how capitalist imperatives determine the attention economy, how hierarchical systems spread within online communities, and how postdigital aesthetics change visual culture. Together, they paint a multi-layered picture of platform cultures and potential forms of resistance.

Have a look at the spring issue of Camera Austria International and the various insights it offers! 🖤

The issue brings together artists and written contributions that revolve around coexistence in (urban) co­m­­munities and around artistic approaches to engaging with human-designed spaces and landscapes in flux.

The meticulously researched essay by JANA NORITSCH sheds light on the artist group CLARA MOSCH, founded in 1977 in Karl-Marx-Stadt (today, Chemnitz), giving insight into their diverse creative endeavors. The author reveals how the over 10,000 pictures taken by the photographic artist Ralf-Rainer Wasse contributed in two ways to documenting the group’s activities: “On the one hand, he produced excellent photographs . . ., which circulated as Mail Art in the alternative art scene of the GDR. On the other, Wasse sold his material to the Stasi, thus assisting the state in monitoring the informal art scene and contributing to the Stasi’s perfidious ‘decomposition measures’ (Zersetzungsmaßnahmen).”

✨ HEUTE ABEND eröffnen die Galerientage 2026 – aktuelle kunst in graz offiziell in der HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark.

Am morgigen Samstag, dem 25. April 2026, um 15:00 laden wir daher zur Kuratorinnenführung Platform Wars durch unsere aktuelle Ausstelllung ein. Bereits um 11:00 startet ein Rundgang mit Claudia Slanar in der Galerie Zimmermann Kratochwill, der durch die Ausstellungen der Akademie Graz, Camera Austria, und Schaumbad - Freies Atelierhaus Graz führt.

👉 Wir empfehlen heute um 16:00 die Eröffnung der Ausstellung von Julia Gaisbacher in der Off_gallery graz.

Es ist wieder soweit, gemeinsam mit der Kulturvermittlung Steiermark dürfen wir für Herbst 2026 zum bereits fünften Mal die Graz Residency for International Photographers (GRIP) ausschreiben.

Das einmonatige Stipendium bietet mit Fotografie oder anderen kamerabasierten Medien arbeitenden Künstler*innen die Möglichkeit des konzentrierten Arbeitens und Forschens in Graz. Es ist daher erwünscht, dass sich der*die Stipendiat*in von Mitte September bis Mitte Oktober 2026 in Graz aufhält. Darüber hinaus setzen wir das Interesse voraus, die lebendige Kunst- und Kulturszene vor Ort kennenzulernen und sich mit dieser zu vernetzen.

Im Rahmen des vierwöchigen GRIP-Aufenthalts (Mitte September–Mitte Oktober 2026) hat der*die ausgewählte Künstler*in Gelegenheit, ein bereits bestehendes Projekt weiterzuentwickeln oder ein neues zu erarbeiten. Für Recherchen steht die mehr als 11.000 Bände umfassende Studienbibliothek von Camera Austria zur Verfügung.

Zur Bewerbung eingeladen sind internationale Künstler*innen, die sich mit Fotografie und/oder Film beschäftigen und die noch am Beginn ihrer künstlerischen Karriere stehen. Einreichfrist ist der 30. April 2026.

Join us today at 5.30 p.m. for an online conversation with S()FIA BRAGA who will present her work “Platform Workshippers” (2023–25), that is currently on view in the group show “Platform Wars” at Camera Austria. Braga’s installation explores the logics of centralized platforms, self-marketing, and digital labor—from daily vloggers and NPC streamers to WIII-GRWM creators—and connects these practices to the tree of life as a mythological-religious symbol. Braga highlights how platform work can be both labor and ritual, revealing the power dynamics at play.

S()fia Braga (b. 1991) is an Italian transmedia artist and a leading voice in AI-driven cinematic storytelling based in Vienna (AT). Her work explores emerging technologies with a focus on human-non-human collaboration, more-than-human agency, and the power dynamics of centralized social media platforms.
