Changes - The transformation of harmony in the music of Elliott Carter
Zsombor Sidoo, guitar
The concert highlights the complex music of the 20th and 21st centuries, particularly Elliot Carter’s solo guitar piece „Changes.“ The goal of Zsombor’s research is to project listening as a form of analysis into Carter’s composition.
The concert will include works by E. Krenek, E. Carter, and R. Haubenstock-Ramati, focusing on different aspects of their harmony, rhythm, and construction of musical time. Traditonally speaking, a “good” interpretation brings out the structure of a given composition. A more “artistic” insight into the performance of this repertoire should deal with the interconnection of musical thought and with principles which concern the operations of the human mind while listening to music.

Sonic Figures
Hugo Vasco Reis, composer
Live electronics
The performance will be based on the relationship between field recordings, electronic music, amplification, and improvisation, following an approach that includes metaphorical associations, projecting a sonic horizon of intention, speculation, and subjectivity.
Hugo’s doctoral project centers on listening and mediation of silent sonic environments, involving experimentation, reflection, collaboration, and creation. Based on field recordings from different political, economic, social, aesthetic, and ethical contexts, the project presents a conception of sounds present in the environment, not always heard due to the limitations of our perception and memory. The aim is to incite a new sonic awareness of the „absent“ reality in which we all live.

Polarity study (monoliths and turbulences)
Christoph Brünggel, composer
Electronics
An 8.1 channel acousmatic piece from Christoph’s artistic research project «Turbulent Currents: Sounding out electricity producing infrastructures and their sonic polarities by composing with field recordings and analog synthesis»
The piece is based on recorded sounds from various power plants. It transcends the realm of documentary, incorporating multisensory impressions and cybernetic phenomena into the compositional process. Phenomena such as the accumulation and flow of energy, the buildup and release of pressure, sudden changes in the system, and sonic interferences have not only been recorded, but also articulated by an analog modular synthesizer.

Using movement as expressive musical interface to unlock microtonal sound possibilities
Alyssa Aska, composer
Live electronics
The concert will explore motion and amplitude detection as means of enharmonic and microtonal expression. It will include live and audiovisual works.
Alyssa is fascinated with the architecture of music, both spatially and temporally. She composes works which explore extremes in time and space, using rigid proportions to generate forms in acoustic works and exploring the unpredictable duration and lack of control in gamified works. She believes in a careful balance between craft and emotion in her music. Her passions include the study of ancient cultures and Stargate SG-1, both of which have influenced her life path and compositional aesthetic.

OPENING PERFORMANCE

Specters of Maqam
Nenad Marković, trumpet
Nenad’s doctoral project „Specters of Maqam“ explores the semiotic dimensions of the Middle Eastern melody; its modular structures, cultural subtexts, and, above all, its points of connection to contemporary and experimental forms of musical expression. Beyond music, the project opens space for dialogue on cultural memory, trauma, and the echoes of erased histories.
The mini recital will include three world premieres by composers Saad Haddad,
Idin Samimi Mofakham and Samir Odeh Tamimi
