Lake Sevan sits at 1,900 meters, one of Eurasia’s largest high-altitude freshwater lakes.
Its intense blue color shifts with the light, earning it the name “Blue Pearl of Armenia.”
Fed by 28 rivers yet drained by only one, the Hrazdan, the lake feels almost otherworldly.
Soviet-era projects dropped the water level 20 meters, turning a former island into today’s dramatic peninsula.
There stands Sevanavank, founded in 874 by Princess Mariam of the Bagratuni dynasty.
Two ancient black-tuff churches built in 874 A.D. still guard the shore, offering views that stop visitors in their tracks.
Just an hour from Yerevan, this lake-and-monastery duo is pure Armenian magic waiting for you.

Swan Lake takes its name from Tchaikovsky’s beloved ballet. Nestled beside the Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet and Northern Avenue.
This small artificial lake was designed in 1963 by architect Gevorg Musheghyan as a miniature replica of Lake Sevan. It was created to help soften Yerevan’s hot, dry climate.
In Soviet times the lake was home to both white and black swans. In winter it regularly becomes an open-air ice-skating rink.
Throughout the year it also hosts lively public events, including the Watermelon Festival, Coffee Festival, Vardavar celebrations, concerts, and other gatherings.

Armenian clay ovens date back to the 1st millennium B.C. until 6th century B.C., discovered during archaeological excavations in ancient Artaxata, Dvin, and Areni.
The Armenian tonir is part of a widespread ancient cooking technology that spans the South Caucasus, Iran, Turkey, the Arab Middle East, and beyond.
