POV: You are working in sterile conditions! 🍀

Everything started with a microscope. Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, who is considered "the Father of microbiology", was one of the few pioneers who knew how to design and how to work with a microscope. Once, when he was observing a specimen under his self-made microscope, he observed "mysterious" moving creatures which he called "animalcula viva" - "tiny living animals". When reporting his observations, he was greeted with tremendous scepticism by his peer scientists. Little did they know, that the "animalcula viva" were indeed tiny living creatures - bacteria, protozoa, and other types of living cellular organisms - yet to be discovered! A simple microscope, a marvellous optical device - combined with a sharp eye of a legendary biologist – paved the way for a philosophical paradigm shift in biomedical science and inventions that shaped the contemporary world.
