The most successful nuclear weaponโฆ is the one that is never used.
Strange, right?
Weโve built systems so powerful, theyโre meant to never actually function. Thatโs the paradox at the heart of modern security.
Over time, the narrative has shifted:
From โwinning warsโ โ to โpreventing them.โ
Nuclear weapons are no longer just tools of conflictโtheyโve become symbols of survival.
And with that came the idea of the โRed Buttonโ โ a single point of ultimate control.
But hereโs where it gets complicated ๐
Deterrence is often presented as the only way to maintain peace.
A defensive shield.
Yet in todayโs worldโfull of evolving conflicts, interventions, and blurred lines between war and peaceโthis story feelsโฆ incomplete.
So maybe the real question is:
How safe are we, actually?
โ
๐ฌ Curious to hear your thoughts:
Do nuclear weapons still prevent warโor are we just used to living with the risk?

๐ง ๐Narratives around intelligent machines are not just stories โ they shape global investment, influence labor markets, and redefine entire economies.
The honeymoon phase of AI is over. Today, the way we talk about it directly impacts how it is governed.
But who is really shaping these narratives? ๐ค
Are AI companies the main storytellers โ or is it a broader collective of governments, journalists, artists, and thinkers?
In this series of data stories, we unpack the narratives surrounding intelligent machines, peace research, and the evolving dynamics of armament and disarmament โ exploring who drives them, who benefits, and what they mean for our future.
