Congratulations...HCT-RAK Emirati filmmaker Waleed Al Shehhi wins DIFF’s IWC Filmmaker Award for ‘Dolphins’ film.

The event was a collaboration with Swiss watch makers IWC Schaffhausen.

The $100,000 IWC Filmmaker award was presented to Waleed Al Shehhi, the Media supervisor at HCT Ras Al Khaimah Colleges, for his film project Dolphins at a red carpet ceremony at the One&Only Royal Mirage in Dubai last night.

This film tells the story of an ambulance driver who is divorced and has one son who lives with his mother. Unnerved by the separation of his parents, the son embarks on an unusual adventure with his friend, when he dreams of one day seeing dolphins swimming in the sea.

Dr. Ali Al Mansoori director or RAKC said: “We are so proud of Waleed for his achievement and it is very important for our students to see a real Emirati role model and learn from his success story.”

Speaking about his win, Waleed told the Gulf News: “It’s a big responsibility, but this will encourage all of us on the project to work harder and make a great film.”

Dolphins was written by writer and poet Ahmad Salmeen.

Al Shehhi’s previous film credits include acclaimed 2004 short film, Aushba’s Well and a documentary, Ahmad Suliman (2006), which won best documentary at the Jordan Short Film Festival.
