β˜€οΈ Life on the Costa del Sol is all about enjoying the outdoors β€” long summer evenings, family gatherings by the pool, and beautiful natural spaces designed for relaxation.

Thatched roofs bring timeless Mediterranean charm to villas, pool houses, gazebos, and outdoor living areas. But with Spain's increasingly strict fire regulations and the growing risk of wildfires during the summer months, protecting your investment has never been more important.

Introducing Cape Reed Fireshield πŸ›‘οΈ

Our advanced fire-retardant treatment is specifically designed for thatched roofs and timber structures, helping to significantly reduce flammability while preserving the natural beauty that makes thatch so special. Fireshield provides an extra layer of protection, giving homeowners greater peace of mind without compromising on aesthetics.

Whether you own a villa in Marbella, Estepona, Sotogrande, or anywhere along the Costa del Sol, Fireshield can help your outdoor spaces remain both beautiful and protected. 🌿

Not all timber is built for the outdoors. Eucalyptus is. 🌿

Here's why we've used it for 20+ years across projects in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Portugal, and beyond:

πŸͺ΅ Plantation-grown β€” no old-growth forests
⚑ Fast-renewing β€” ready to harvest in years, not decades
πŸ’§ Naturally water-resistant β€” handles humidity, rain, and coastal air
πŸ”₯ Works with Fireshield β€” fully compatible with our fire-retardant system

It's not just our preferred material. It's the most responsible choice for outdoor structures in demanding climates.

White timber, blue sea, Marbella sky. β˜€οΈπŸŒŠ

This is our latest completed project on the Costa del Sol β€” a full whitewash timber pergola with reed lath infill ceiling and custom lath screening panels for privacy. The kind of outdoor space that makes you want to cancel your afternoon plans.

Every element was designed to work with the setting rather than compete with it. The whitewash finish softens the natural timber while keeping that organic texture β€” you can still see the grain and the roundness of each lath through the paint. Against white walls and a Mediterranean backdrop, it disappears into the architecture in exactly the right way. 🌿

The lath screening panels give the terrace full privacy without closing it off β€” air moves through freely, light filters in, and the view is still very much part of the experience.

This is what we do on the Costa del Sol. ✨

"If you use so many timber poles, how can you claim to be sustainable?"

It's the question we get asked more than any other β€” and it deserves an honest answer. 🌳

The truth is, not all timber is the same. The eucalyptus we use is plantation-grown, fast-renewing, and harvested with full traceability. Every pole replaces itself within years, not decades.

We wrote the full story on our blog β€” because we think transparency is part of what makes a brand worth trusting.

Ever seen a roof get a haircut? πŸ’‡β€β™‚οΈπŸ

The final stages of a thatch build are all about precision. Once the bundles are secured and compacted, it’s time for the "trim." This isn’t just for looksβ€”it’s a vital part of the process:

The Trim: Using specialized tools to create those clean, sharp edges you see on our signature structures. πŸ“
The Layering: Each tier is carefully shaped to ensure optimal water runoff and wind resistance. πŸ’¨πŸŒ§οΈ
The Finish: Sculpting the thatch to perfectly follow the curves of the timber frame.

There’s a reason these roofs last for decadesβ€”it’s all in the details (and the grooming!).

🏌️ Back at La Zagaleta β€” and the work speaks for itself.

Our team has just completed a Cape Reed Fireshield application on the iconic New Course Clubhouse in BenahavΓs, MΓ‘laga β€” 425mΒ² of thatched roof, treated and protected for years to come.

This is a roof we originally installed, so returning to apply Fireshield felt like the natural next step. Because great craftsmanship deserves lasting protection. 🌿πŸ”₯

With temperatures rising across Spain and wildfires becoming an increasingly real threat, now is the time to act β€” before the heat peaks.
Here's why leading hotels and private homeowners across Europe and the Middle East trust Cape Reed Fireshield:
1️⃣ Internationally approved
2️⃣ 3-Year protection period
3️⃣ Easy application β€” sprayed or painted on
4️⃣ Environmentally friendly
5️⃣ Minimizes fire risk and liability

Natural materials are beautiful. With Fireshield, they stay that way β€” safely. βœ…

🌿 That's a wrap from FutureScape Global 2026!

What an incredible two days at one of the region's most inspiring events. A huge thank you to our amazing team for bringing Stand F22 to life β€” you made Cape Reed shine. πŸ™Œ

To everyone who stopped by, connected with us, and shared their vision for the future of outdoor living β€” thank you. The conversations, the connections, and the energy made every moment worthwhile.

A special highlight was watching our MD Andre take to the FutureScape Global stage as a panel speaker, joining industry leaders in a thought-provoking discussion on delivering sustainable development β€” because it all starts with design. πŸ’¬

Events like this remind us why we do what we do. Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 is reshaping landscapes, communities, and outdoor living spaces at a breathtaking scale β€” and Cape Reed is proud to be part of that journey. πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¦
