SUAD Theatre Group presents a French-language radio play: Boris Vian’s The
Empire Builders published in 1959. SONGS LEAD. TEXT USHERS.
Celebrating Vian’s music first and foremost, the script is used to lead into his
melodies in a unique sonic setting of his haunting, absurdist play.
Discover the jazz man and author’s songs, framed by an abridged version of the
play, in which a family terrorized by a sound flees up a building into increasingly
smaller apartments, and in which they always encounter a mysteriously silent
figure.
We share this audio creation while we wait to be reunited with our dear
community next October, when we stage our full-length show at Zayed Theatre.

On 23 November, teens took over the rooftop of Jameel Arts Centre for a free theatre workshop as part of Down to Earth – UAE’s annual green gathering.

Together we:
• turned simple cloth into shifting landscapes and creatures
• explored creative movement, play, and teamwork
• devised a short presentation using a parachute 🪂

Huge love to everyone who showed up with open minds, curious hearts, and a willingness to look twice at “ordinary” things. You made the rooftop feel alive. 💚

The world of theatre and music has lost a giant.
Lebanese playwright, composer, and cultural icon Ziad Rahbani has passed away at 69.

His words, melodies, and fearless spirit shaped generations—reminding us that art is not only entertainment, but resistance, truth, and love.

As a theatre troupe, Startoo stands in deep respect for his legacy. His brilliance will continue to inspire our voices on stage, urging us to challenge, to question, and to dream.
