A security company’s cash van was allegedly robbed of Rs 300 million (30 crore) in Karachi’s Federal B Area.

According to police, the robbery appears to have been carefully planned, and preliminary investigations have raised serious suspicions about the involvement of Wajid, the security company’s chief crew member.

SSP Central Dr. Imran Khan stated that the cash van had departed from Tariq Road to deliver money to a private bank. On the way, the crew stopped near Rizwan Park for tea. During this stop, four suspects arrived at the scene and took control of the cash van.

Police officials said the suspects drove the van to a street near Altaf Pakwan, where bags filled with cash were transferred into another vehicle. The suspects then managed to escape. Investigators also discovered that before carrying out the robbery, the suspects had parked their vehicle in a nearby back street and approached the location on foot.

As soon as the incident was reported, Joharabad Police reached the scene and launched an investigation. SSP Central Dr. Imran Khan personally inspected the site and, after a detailed review, issued necessary instructions to the concerned officers.

Dr. Imran Khan said that all aspects of the cash van robbery are being thoroughly investigated and that efforts are underway to bring the suspects to justice as soon as possible based on the available evidence.

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has taken notice of the cash van robbery in District Central and has sought an immediate report from the SSP Central.

According to the SSP Central, the incident involved the theft of cash from a security company’s cash van in Federal B Area. Initial investigations suggest that Wajid, the company’s chief crew member, was involved in the crime. Following the robbery, he allegedly fled with the other suspects.

The SSP Central further informed authorities that CCTV footage and other evidence are being used to trace and identify the suspects.

The Sindh Home Minister emphasized that the suspects should be arrested swiftly and brought before the law. He also directed that special teams be formed to investigate the case and ensure the arrest of all those involved.

Former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senator Taj Afridi passed away in a road accident on the M-1 motorway near the Colonel Sher Khan Interchange on Friday, according to the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP).

A statement from the NHMP said Afridi was commuting from Islamabad to Peshawar in a car along with his driver when the vehicle reportedly developed a mechanical fault and veered off the motorway.

The crash resulted in severe injuries to the PML-N leader, claiming his life, though his driver only sustained minor injuries in the incident, the statement further said.

“The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to a sudden malfunction, causing it to plunge into the roadside rainwater drainage channel,” an NHMP official told The Express Tribune.

Motorway police and rescue teams immediately arrived at the scene of the accident and provided primary care to the victims. Despite medical aid, the senator passed away on the spot, after which his body was taken to the hospital.

Motorway police said that preliminary findings suggested the accident occurred due to an abrupt mechanical fault in the vehicle, and a probe was underway to ascertain the exact causes.

Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani expressed grief over the death and extended his condolences to Afridi's family.

He said Afridi's parliamentary, political and public services would always be remembered.
