SUMMER 2024: A Collage of Style and Tradition at DIOR
Kim Jones, the artistic director at DIOR, presents his fifth-anniversary collection, merging influences from the brand's predecessors and eras. Drawing inspiration from the silhouettes of Yves Saint Laurent and the embroideries of Gianfranco Ferré, Jones creates a mechanical garden of 'hommes fleurs,' blurring the lines between femininity and masculinity, tradition and subversion.
In this collection, Jones intertwines his own autobiography with the histories of DIOR, combining British tailoring traditions with haute couture savoir-faire. The result is a fusion of crisp modernity, practicality, and luxury, where iconic menswear items like the Harrington, the polo, the crew neck, and the cardigan are elevated through symbolic techniques such as tweeds, embroideries, and the signature cannage pattern.
Saint Laurent's tailoring legacy shines through in relaxed masculine suiting, summer ensembles, and sweeping coats, while shoes take inspiration from the iconic Lady Dior bag with circular logos on heavy-soled loafers and slides. The biggest beauty industry acquisition- L'Oréal buys Aesop for $2.5 billion
In its largest-ever brand acquisition, L'Oréal is paying Natura & Co. of Brazil US$2.5 billion to acquire the upscale skincare line, Aesop.
In a joint statement, L'Oréal, Aesop, and Natura & Co. said that Aesop would continue to grow internationally under its new ownership. (It announced plans to enter the mainland China market in 2021.) Following the sale, Natura & Co. will focus on its Avon and The Body Shop businesses.
Sustainability and The Aesop Aesthetic
Aesop's community building is centered on attracting customers (especially ‘Zillennials’- Gen Z+Millennials) who value brands that care about the environment. This has led to a clear consistency, despite a wide range of products.
The brand utilizes a minimalist aesthetic in both its packaging and store design. Many of its stores were specially designed by architects the company respects, which is why the surroundings always feel so well-thought-out.
