Aviation Safety - Advanced Upset Prevention and Recovery Training for commercial pilots. Advanced pilot training.
18/06/2026
Congratulations to another successful Advanced UPRT graduate! πβοΈ
Pictured with Capt. Wayne Jack following completion of the VERTICAL Advanced UPRT course, this pilot has taken an important step in strengthening the skills that can make the difference when it matters most.
Advanced Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (AUPRT) is not just for newly qualified pilots. It is designed for pilots at every stage of their careerβfrom private and commercial pilots through to airline captains and instructors. Loss of Control In-Flight (LOC-I) remains the leading cause of fatal aviation accidents worldwide, and the ability to recognise, avoid, and recover from unusual attitudes is a critical skill that cannot be fully appreciated through simulator training alone.
Training is conducted in our high-performance Extra 330 aircraft, one of the world's most capable aerobatic training platforms. With exceptional power, handling characteristics, and structural limits of up to +8/-8G, the aircraft provides an ideal environment to safely demonstrate real-world upset scenarios and recovery techniques.
Beyond the safety benefits, Advanced UPRT is increasingly valued by airlines and aviation employers as evidence of a pilot's commitment to professional development, situational awareness, and continuous improvement. Investing in your skills today can help prepare you for the opportunities of tomorrow.
Thank you for training with VERTICAL, and we wish you every success in your future aviation career. Blue skies and safe flying! βοΈ

Congratulations to another group of pilots on successfully completing their Advanced Upset Prevention & Recovery Training with VERTICAL Advanced Flight Training in Ras Al Khaimah this week. βοΈ
Investing in yourself as a pilot is one of the most valuable decisions you can make β whether Advanced UPRT is mandated by your chosen airline today or not.
Because the reality is that Loss of Control In-Flight (LOC-I) remains the leading cause of fatal accidents worldwide, and it does not discriminate by experience level. Even highly experienced pilots can be caught off guard by unexpected aircraft attitudes, disorientation, startle effect, or rapidly changing energy states.
Advanced UPRT is about far more than manoeuvres.
It is about awareness.
It is about prevention.
It is about recognising the upset early, understanding the aeroplaneβs energy state, managing the physiological and psychological effects of surprise, and recovering safely before the situation escalates beyond control.
These are skills every pilot should carry with them throughout their career.
Thank you for trusting VERTICAL with your training.
Congratulations again β and blue skies and tailwinds for the journey ahead.

Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed Eid
filled with peace, happiness and prosperity.
May this Eid bring you joy and success.
From the team at Actionflight and Vertical Advanced Flight Training.
Advanced UPRT is not just for new pilots.
Loss of Control In Flight (LOC-I) remains the single largest contributing factor in fatal air accidents worldwide β and experience alone does not make any pilot immune to the effects of startle, surprise and rapidly deteriorating aircraft energy states.
We were proud to welcome Andrew Joseph to VERTICAL Advanced Flight Training following completion of his Advanced Upset Prevention & Recovery Training programme in the Extra 330LT.
Andrew has spent several years working as a Flight Instructor in the United States, yet like many highly experienced pilots, he recognised the value of experiencing real-aircraft upset scenarios first hand.
Advanced UPRT develops:
βοΈ upset recognition
βοΈ energy management
βοΈ recovery discipline
βοΈ situational awareness under pressure
βοΈ decision-making during high workload and unexpected events
The physiological and psychological effects of a genuine upset scenario can catch even experienced pilots off guard if they have never encountered them in a real aircraft environment.
That is why modern UPRT training matters.
At VERTICAL Advanced Flight Training, based at Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, we are committed to helping pilots build safer instincts, stronger awareness and greater confidence when operating outside the normal comfort zone of routine flying.
Congratulations Andrew on completing your course, and thank you for choosing VERTICAL.

In the news this week, another heartbreaking reminder of why Loss of Control In Flight (LOC-I) remains one of aviationβs greatest threats.
Reports surrounding this recent accident describe an aircraft entering a high-altitude upset climbing uncontrollably to 38,000 feet then plummeting from FL350 (35,000 feet) before impact with the sea.
While investigators will determine the final causes, accidents involving loss of control have repeatedly shown how rapidly a situation can become unrecoverable when:
* aircraft energy state deteriorates
* spatial orientation is lost
* startle and surprise overwhelm decision-making
* inappropriate control inputs develop
* crews operate outside normal flight envelopes
This is precisely why modern aviation introduced:
βοΈ Advanced Upset Prevention & Recovery Training (AUPRT)
AUPRT is not aerobatics.
It is advanced safety training designed to help pilots:
β
recognise developing upsets early
β
understand aircraft energy management
β
avoid stalls and unusual attitudes
β
recover correctly when prevention fails
β
manage the physiological and psychological effects of surprise and stress
Following multiple LOC-I tragedies worldwide β including accidents such as Air France 447 and others involving high-altitude stalls and upset scenarios β regulators globally recognised the need for more advanced real-aircraft upset recovery training.
The UAE GCAA now mandates Advanced UPRT under CAR-FCL.745(a) for commercial pilot pathways.
At VERTICAL Advanced Flight Training, based at Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, we are proud to contribute to that safety mission through real-aircraft Advanced UPRT using the Extra 330LT platform.
The objective is simple:
Develop pilots who are better prepared for the unexpected.
Because in aviation, prevention is always the goal β
but when prevention fails, training matters.

Loss of Control in-flight (LOC-I) remains the biggest cause of fatal accidents globally.
At VERTICAL Advanced Flight Training we deliver meaningful scenario based Advanced Upset prevention and recovery training, Not only to satisfy the FCL745-A mandate, but to train pilots how to manage themselves and the aircraft through an aircraft upset, regain control and land everyone safely. We take pride in ensuring every pilot takes home a set of procedures that will save lives.

15.05.2026 Today, Aaron, Nawfal and Kassem completed the VERTICAL Advanced Upset Prevention and Recovery Training AUPRT course in Ras Al Khaimah with their instructors Captains Wayne Jack and Rob Akron.
Aaron Murray is a second-generation pilot, following in the footsteps of his father, legacy carrier, Emirates Airlines Senior Captain Ronan Murray.
Congratulations guys, taking aviation to the highest standards of safety β best wishes in your airline careers.
Captain Wayne Jack joined Georgia Tolley, prominent British broadcaster and journalist this morning on Dubai Eye 103.8βs The Agenda to discuss the exciting future of astronaut and space training in the UAE. ππ¦πͺ
The conversation explored the newly announced strategic partnership between BLINC Space and VERTICAL Advanced Flight Training β supporting the development of UAE-based astronaut preparation and human spaceflight training pathways as part of future university degree programmes designed to prepare people for careers connected to the growing global space industry.
The discussion also highlighted how Ras Al Khaimah is positioning itself at the forefront of experiential aerospace tourism, with ActionFlight offering the public the opportunity to experience elements of space-style training through G-Force aerobatic flights, upcoming parabolic zero-gravity flights, and skydiving experiences.
From future astronauts to adventure seekers β the future of aerospace experiences in the UAE is taking flight. βοΈππ
From classroom theory to real-world Advanced Upset Prevention and Recovery Training, it was our privilege to welcome our newest AUPRT graduate, commercial pilot Sam from Canada π¨π¦
Upon receiving his CAR FCL745-A completion certificate, Sam shares his experience of both the ground school and in-flight training, and his kind words for Captain Wayne Jack and Captain Rob Akron, who guided him throughout the programme from their years of Airline and all attitude flight instructing experience.
Advanced Upset Prevention & Recovery Training is about more than manoeuvres β it builds confidence, judgement, energy management and the skills to recognise and recover from unexpected situations safely. It is just as much about managing the psychological and physiological effects of startle and surprise as it is the handling.
Congratulations Sam on your achievement. We thank you for choosing VERTICAL Advanced Flight Training and wish you every success in your aviation career ahead. Blue skies and tailwinds. βοΈ
