Veteran Chivi fishmonger missing in Muvhundusi dam

CHIVI-Veteran fisherman, Kilason Mapfumo from Machingauta Village under Chief Muvhundusi in Chivi has been missing since yesterday evening when he went to retrieve his fishing nets.
A neighbour, Ripai Madziva told The Midweek Watch that Mapfumo went to Muvhundusi dam about 500m from his homestead to collect fish from his nets at around 6pm, unfortunately he slipped into the water and has been missing since then.
She added that his son and wife rushed to the scene after being informed by Mapfumo's sister that he had slipped into the small dam while retrieving his fishing nets.
They pulled the nets from the water, minus Mapfumo.
A report was made to the police and today a sub aqua team from Buchwa in Mberengwa has been searching for him until this evening without success.

They stopped due to visibility problems and will resume the search tomorrow.
"We are in shock because this man has been fishing in almost all the neighbouring dams without any incident, he has been fishing in Lake Tugwi Mukosi, and Danhamombe Dam, selling fish in the community for a living," said Madziva.
When contacted for a comment Masvingo Province ZRP spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said he didn't have the case, but will contact Chivi Police for the information.

VID officers in $1m licences scam

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) confirms the arrest of Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) Data Capturer Clerks, Tinotenda Maningi and Chrison Chipanda, over a fraudulent vehicle licensing scam involving over $1 million.

The two allegedly acted in connivance with two other suspects, Ebenezzer Zvidza and Emmanuel Mushonga, who are still at large, and manipulated the VID computerised licensing system to fraudulently issue learner's licences and Certificates of Competency to approximately 500 individuals who had neither undergone the mandatory competency tests nor met the legal requirements.

Investigations by ZACC further revealed that the accused allegedly unlawfully accessed and manipulated electronic user accounts belonging to other VID officers to process and authorise fraudulent transactions, thereby concealing their identities and compromising audit trails.

They are accused of generating fake official payment receipts falsely indicating that statutory licensing fees had been paid into Government accounts.

Instead of directing applicants to pay through official Government channels, the accused allegedly solicited and received bribes ranging from US$200 to over US$500 per applicant.

Investigations also revealed that the accused persons worked with accomplices at the Central Vehicle Registry to facilitate the fraudulent processing of the documents, with a significant number of beneficiaries reportedly being foreign nationals

The accused appeared at Harare Magistrate Court on 30 July 2026 and were remanded in custody to 4 August 2026.
