Peterhouse Group of Schools, Zimbabwe 1st XI Cricket captain Tendekai Mataranyika said that it is in their nature not to give up after they beat St Andrews College from South Africa in the Super Over to win the CABS St George's College, Harare, Zimbabwe T20 Smashing Cricket Tournament

St George's College CABS 'Smashing Cricket' T20 Festival 2022 - Final: Peterhouse Boys vs St Andrew's College A (RSA).

What an exciting final it was! To start off, Peterhouse set 158 runs for St Andrew's to chase. Despite St Andrew's having a very good start to set 128 runs for 0 after 14 overs, Peterhouse managed to fight back and get St Andrew's all out for 158 runs - which led to the game tying and sending it into a super over. St Andrew's proceeded to set 13 to win and Peterhouse chased it with one ball to spare.

Congratulations to Peterhouse Group of Schools, Zimbabwe for winning this year's T20 festival!

- The John Carter Science Block

The Peterhouse John Carter Science Block was completed as a state of the art facility in 2001 – to provide top quality education in biology, physics and chemistry and cater for the number of pupils which now included a good number of girls.

It was named after John Carter, a passionate parent who then joined the Peterhouse Executive Committee (EXCO) in 1972.  In 1977 he, along with Syd Hayes, worked to create a plan for future development at the school which included the Fieldsend Hall, Snell House, Springvale House, Peterhouse Girls, the Sir Humphrey Gibbs Centre and the new Science Centre.

John Carter then went on to become Chairman of the Board of Governors and was a potent influence over the development of Peterhouse over three decades.

The John Carter Science Block continues to be a thriving space for budding scientists.

Interact Variety Show 2022 - Formula 1 🎭

The 2022 Interact Variety show was held in early October and was a huge success, not only showcasing the incredible talent and creativity of our pupils but raising money for charity too.

The audience was treated to a number of shows, ranging from musical bands, dance, performance, recitation, songs, skits and even a special act by Mr Kevan Barbour. Rehearsals had been carefully planned and costumes, lights and choreography brought together by the pupils themselves.

The total profit raised purely for charity is just over US$3000.00. The Interact club and its patrons thank Peterhouse Boys and Peterhouse Girls for their support in social responsibility endeavors.

B Block Chimanimani Trip 🏕 ⛰️ 🏞

“It’s not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.” – Unknown

The Peterhouse Chimanimani Expedition for 2022 was a little different as we combined the boys and girls to allow for more integration between the two schools.

After six hours in the bus on Monday we arrived at Charleswood Farm with the pupils’ first view of the imposing cliffs of the Chimanimani Mountains.

Walking the 6km to the National Parks Basecamp in Chimanimani National park gave pupils the opportunity to realise that several changes of clothes and several luxuries must be left in camp because packs were getting heavier with every step. After a brief rest, the Kweza 1 and 2 groups left for their prospective overnight camps.

Rising at 5:15 on Tuesday morning with a quick breakfast saw the two groups on their way. Kweza 1 going South through the “Banana Groves, past Paradise Pools to overnight at “High Valley” to be within easy striking distance to Climb Mount Kwesa/ Binga, the second highest mountain in Zimbabwe, on Wednesday morning before breaking camp to overnight on the Bundi plain. All pupils opted to climb Mt Pesa the next morning before starting the return journey via Baileys Folly, a really tough route, in the afternoon.

Kweza 2 headed north and crossed onto the Bundi River plain via Baileys Folly and encountered some very steep climbs. A 5km climb to the summit of Mt Pesa on the same day tested their resolve. A well-deserved overnight rest and swim in the pools in the Bundi river before breaking camp to overnight at High Valley  in the afternoon followed. A long walk via Paradise pools and Banana Groves back to basecamp saw them back at basecamp for an evening of sharing “War Stories” with the other group.

The boys and girls felt a great sense of achievement after conquering these intimidating mountains. They knew how impossible the task seemed but completed it - conquering a mountain is how you conquer any obstacle in life, one step at a time.

These young men and women successfully completed a rite of passage for all Peterhouse pupils since 1967 and can rightfully feel proud of their achievements.
