LEADERSHIP- THE GOOD SHEPHERD PROVIDES GOOD PASTURE FOR THE SHEEP
The Bible is a great leadership resource, with reference being made to the Good Shepherd in several passages. The Good Shepherd is a leader with responsibilities towards the sheep - the followers. A shepherd provides good pasture (John 10:9). In Psalm 23, reference is made to the Good Shepherd by the "sheep" -
"I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul."
The "sheep" actually know how a "Good Shepherd looks like. Those who are around you as a leader know whether you are good or bad. What are they saying about you?
True leaders have an obligation to provide for the real needs of those they lead. Great leaders are concerned about protecting and ensuring the safety of those that are led. These are the responsible men and women who go ahead of the followers to ensure that all is in order. The seek for the green pasture, not for themselves but for the sheep. Many so-called Shepherds are looking for pastures only unto themselves- how unfortunate.
Isn't it a catastrophe when the one who claims to be leader behaves like a hireling and not a Shepherd? Instead of providing and protecting the sheep, the hireling runs away when danger looms. When the sheep are hungry, the hireling worsens the situation by killing the sheep instead.
True Corporate Leaders do not grind down their employees in unhealthy environments at less than livable wages and still expect maximum productivity. True leaders worry and are concerned about the consequences of their actions especially unto those who are limited in their capacity to act, probably because of the conditions that are prevailing. When it comes to a true leader's choices, a person is more important than a profit. People are more critical than power. Purpose should precede positions.
A leader acts in a way that gives “life” to those he or she leads (John 10:10). It is worrisome when there are more thieves in leadership positions than there are true leaders. There are plentous hirelings in the political, corporate and spiritual leadership domains than there are true leaders.
Are you a good Shepherd or a mere hireling?
Ours is a commitment to the development of leaders
KEEP LEARNING THROUGH THE GOOD OR BAD
Life presents uphill and downhill moments. It will not always be winter they say. Sweet moments are followed by bitter ones, such are the ingredients that life is made of.
Never regret a day in your life, pick your lesson and be on the go again. Whatever the state of affairs now, it will be gone tomorrow. "Good days give you happiness and bad days give you experience." (Unknown)
Most often our greatest struggles form our greatest strength, and our worst experiences end up teaching us our greatest lessons. In whatever experience, write the notes for reference later. Be grateful for all experiences in your life, for they shaped who you are today and they keep on building you up for where you are going. The great tree in the forest has been through the worst of droughts, the coldest winters, the storms that uprooted their colleagues and even the forest fires. Amidst all that, the tree remained rooted. If the stories of the greats amongst us are fully shared, then you will appreciate that we are and ought to be learners through this life.
The great Anonymous is ever right even through these words; "Everything that you are going through is preparing you for what you’ve asked for." We ask for so much, yet never seem ready for those things when they arrive. Sometimes not getting what you ‘want’ right away is a great blessing and a powerful life lesson. Wherever you are and whatever you are going through, it's only a season as the great Preacher articulated, there is time for everything. Learn from each moment and keep going.
I believe in you and the massive deposit you possess. Keep going.
APPLY THE RIGHTFUL PRINCIPLES TO ADDRESS YOUR SITUATION
The Biblical record of Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the fallen walls of Jerusalem is a movie style type of narrative that carries serious lessons for our daily lives. Nehemiah got to know of the fallen walls of Jerusalem and was deeply concerned. He knew there and then that something had to be done. You cannot bring about change in any situation if you are contend with the status quo. Deep concern leads to conviction to follow a particular course that separates you from the common.
The choices that Nehemiah made after hearing about the state of affairs led to the rebuilding of the walls in a record time of 52 days. In today's professional circles, one can conclude that Nehemiah was an astute Project Manager who delivered to the specifications within set time limits.
What made Nehemiah accomplish such a feat within such a short time frame?
He understood his PURPOSE
He PAID THE PRICE
In whatever situation, know your assignment/ purpose. Because you cannot do it alone, seek spiritual direction/ pray. It's not enough to pray, plan ahead. Great plans have never been achieved because they are locked somewhere, play your part/ proceed. The path to great results will never be easy, persist in your pursuits. As the work gets bigger, the price to be paid gets higher, never forget to pay the price to greatness.
CHANGE IS AN INSIDE JOB
The heart of leadership is an understanding that real transformation is an inside job. Before you change what is happening around you, deal with what is within.
When an egg is broken from without, that's the end of life but the same egg broken from within ushers a new life to the world. It's easy to blame others for our predicament but the future belongs to the one who introspects and takes strides at correcting their situation.
There is a person you see in the mirror, that one is the very culprit to a greater part of your misery.
“We face neither East nor West, we face forward” (Kwame Nkrumah). Better it is to introspect and face forward as we will spend the rest of our lives in the future, having taken a lesson of two from the past. Lessons however doesn't mean we live the past twice but we use such to create a better future for ourselves.
Everything else having been said, real change doesn't start THERE, it starts HERE.
“There's no such thing as a natural-born pilot.” – Chuck Yeager. Just substitute the word “leader” for “pilot”.
