Increase of school dropouts in Chiredzi by Passmore Ndlovu

(AUDIO) In Chiredzi, 25% of girls and 15% of boys drop out of primary school while 41% of girls and 38% of boys drop out at high school level every year.
Chiredzi district education officer Otilia Njitimani says most children in primary school are dropping out due to hunger; and young girls are being coerced into early marriages. Without education, the school dropouts are often taken advantage of and forced to work for poor little to no pay.

Citizens in Chiredzi are hard at work building low-cost toilets for their villages. Chiredzi has been the scene of brutal cholera outbreaks in the past.
