Shanda is a documentary about the life and music of Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi from Zimbabwe. The film follows Tuku on a tour of his country and into his past, through a series of concerts and interviews filmed around Zimbabwe, as he performs the songs that were most pivotal to his career. Tuku and his band “The Black Spirits” are captured performing at a most remarkable time of their long history together, and the energy of their music and dance explodes from the screen as Tuku sings the songs that mean most to him, in the places closest to his heart.

Mafelanis take Mbira to the world & back FOR the Mafuleni family, traditional mbira music runs in the blood. They owe everything that they have to mbira music - their house, their car, a recording studio and an Arts Centre.

Tsoro Arts Center is raising money to help provide basic necessities and access to education for their students. International artists Martha Thom and Jacob Mafuleni currently volunteer their time and energy to teach marimba, mbira and traditional dance at the center, where access to learning is free and open to youth of the Dzivaresekwa community of Harare. After only two years of learning how to play, the current Tsoro Arts Center students are growing to be truly amazing performers as they learn to showcase their skills at local festivals and events.
But Tsoro Arts Center provides much more than just music in support of their students. The organization seeks funding for the 2017 calendar year so they are able to continue to provide simple meals to help meet the basic needs of all youth enrolled at the center. We especially seek help to ensure that all members have their rights to formal education met this coming year.
Our fundraising goal for 2017 is $6,047, which will cover one meal a day for 10 students at the center as well as school fees and school supplies for 8 enrolled students who currently cannot afford to attend school next year.
$155 sends 1 child to school per term
$195 feeds the marimba kids for one month
Payments can be made via PayPal to Dana Moffett of Rubatano Center: Paypal.Me/DanaMoffett
Dana will make sure all of the funds are sent to Tsoro Arts in Zimbabwe. Also checks can be sent to Rubatano, PO Box 640, Langley WA 98260.
