#ZaiPits in Chinyika, Gutu. The best technique to prepare land for tree planting.

Pits of at least 30cm x 30cm x 30cm are dug in the dry season or prior to the rain season. The pits are manure added, upto 50% and mixed with soil then left until the rain season to plant the trees.

The concept is a climate friendly and moisture stress-proof. This means success rate of planting is increased to 100%.

as we trained farmers and interested individuals the fundamentals of Tree Propagation.

Propagation techniques are important in the capacitation of youths in driving the economy towards achieving climate change resilience and poverty eradication especially through a Robust Reforestation Initiative.

This is in line with the vision to make Zimbabwe an Upper Middle Income Economy by 2030, National Development Strategy 1 and the SDGs.

Zimbabwe considers human capital investment via education a major tool for sustainable development and for the attainment of Vision 2030. According to the 2018 National Critical Skills Audit Report by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development (MHTEISTD), Zimbabwe has a critical skills deficit in Engineering and Technology, Natural and Applied Sciences, Medical and Health Sciences and this needs focused planning to increase enrolments in these areas. The aim of the scholarship programme is to reward high-achieving students and to invest in human capital development in these areas. RCZ anticipates that the beneficiaries from the 2020 Scholarship Programme will be absorbed into Zimbabwe’s workforce by 2022.

Benefits

The scholarship covers tuition fees up to ZWL30 000.

Applicants must:

Be a national and resident of Zimbabwe.
Be in possession of a good first degree (minimum second class).
Be applying for a full-time taught masters or masters by research or MPhil in Engineering and Technology, Natural and Applied Sciences, and Health Sciences at public Zimbabwean universities.
Research on any aspect of COVID-19 (health, economics, social, etc) will be given special consideration.
Application Process

The application form serves as the basis for assessment. The application form can be found on the RCZ website, www.rcz.ac.zw . It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the application is complete and accurate before submission. All sections of the form must be completed.

Dear Obert Jiri,
Greetings!

UN Environment is proud to announce the running of a massive open online course (MOOC) on Envirnomental Security and Sustaining Peace. This 8-week course starts February 11, and it is offered in English, with video transcripts and tests in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Mandarin Chinese. The course is free.

This is a great opportunity for youth (and others!) to learn about how the environment and natural resources can be a cause for peace, rather than conflict. The course is taught by leading practitioners and professors from around the world. It is also a great opportunity to interact with others from around the world through interactive discussion groups and crowd-mapping exercises using the UN’s MapX platform to enhance student engagement.

Our Story

Practical experience in agriculture is an important part of the degree programme and is divided into three main parts: Agricultural Practice course, the Student Farm Attachment scheme, and the Internship programme. The practical attachments are designed to give students valuable on-job experiences and to develop skills and confidence which enhance their employment prospects. During Part I students are required to attend all practical classes which are designed to give them a practical appreciation and broad background to agriculture. At the end of Part I, during the long vacation, students are attached to a farm where they will actively participate in the various farming operations. At the end of Part II, students undergo an internship of two months with an approved employer. In addition, practical aspects are enhanced by visits to commercial and communal farms, research stations and other agricultural research institution.
