Mateo Kaunda, Patience Musa and Willom Tight who make up the Mateo & Friends outfit met at comedian Edgar Langeveldt's Nexus Talent Agency in the late 90s. Willom, who was a member of the Zim Jam group together with Langeveldt, hung around; Patience had come to the agency in a bid to refine her voice while Mateo came in search of backing vocalists after a stint with Albert Nyathi in 1993. Formerly known as Gwevedzi Afro Acoustics Band, Gwevedzi was formed in 2016 in Harare. The quest of the band is to also harmonize the people of the world through music. Gwevedzi is a Shona name given to a suitor in a courtship between a young lady and a young man to strengthen the love between the two. It consists of four members; Tinashe Masangudza guitar, Wilfred Nikisi bass, Nyasha Murada lead vocals/mbira, and Keith Musena on the drums. They have performed at the same venue for more than 3 times since October 2021. Meanwhile, the group has done a couple of live shows locally in Mutare, Victoria Falls, Harare and Kwekwe. Other performances include the recent Jacaranda Music Festival, earGROUND`s Amplifaya Festival among others. Gwevedzi has regional experience, having performed in South Africa and Mozambique.

When the spirit is advising the family, there are certain songs which are played as background songs. Such as Mutamba, Nhemamusasa Diki, Dangurangu, Todzungayira etc. There will be drumming on Jiti, Mhemberwa, Kore kore, Mbende among others. The show will close with a Nhare or Dzavadzimu mbira played with joyful songs from different parts of Zimbabwe.
This concert will dignify the discernment that mbira is passed from generation to generation.

We regret to announce the postponement of the play `Billion Dollar Campagn` which was scheduled for this week from Wednesday to Saturday. Please note that this decision was not made lightly, rather it was necessitated by circumstances beyond our control. We proudly present `Billion Dollar Campaign`, a theatre play written and directed by Thulani Mbambo this week from 16 to 19 November 2022 at Theatre in the Park from 6PM. In the play, we see Sinyoro while campaigning to be an MP, taking billion dollars from the investors with the promise that if he wins he will do anything that they want. Now that he has won and in power and it's now payback time. What the investors want goes against what he stands for. He has sold his soul to the devil. Will the MP betray his people and constituency or face the wrath of the investors who seem to be prepared to spill the beans even to shed blood. It's people versus his skeletons.

Jacob Mafuleni is a well-respected artist who has showcased his talents and gained notoriety for his performances as musician, singer, dancer, instrument maker, song arranger & teacher since 1992. Winning an award for best instrumentalist in Zimbabwe, Jacob has performed & toured worldwide with many renowned bands & dance troupes. Jacob sings, dances, plays mbira, njari, marimba, guitar, & drums. His son Abel Mafuleni, started his career in music at a very tender age under the tutelage of his parents Jacob and Martha. He developed interest in arrangements for marimba and mbira in Afro-jazz, Zimbabwean sungura music and traditional Mbira repertoire. His deep interest in traditional music enabled him to tour countries such as China and USA showcasing his skills. He took up short musical classes in the USA and also managed to record Marimba tracks in California Santa Cruz.

The play is based on the bombing of Chimoio Freedom Fighter’s Camp and the retaliation against Rhodesian Forces in the Zimbabwean second liberation war. The narrative unfolds from a scene in the 1890s when Nehanda and Kaguvi were captured after revolting against the white settlers. They are hung together with other chiefs. Nehanda makes a proclamation that she will rise again and drive away the settlers and give back the land to the black people. Don't miss it!

It's the fourth and final day of the play, An Act of Man by Zenzo Nyathi. Lets come in our numbers and watch this play, interrogating issues to do with climate change.
