Today we are given another Shona poem by Evans Wallace Macheke which speaks against Gender Based Violence.

The poem was professionally scribed through a lot of Shona writing skills that have been all-intertwined to emotionally expresses the mind of an abused woman. As presented in the text, the woman is regretting getting married to her husband "Panga" who turns to be so abusive.

The wife as a marginalized woman, tells us about how she didn't pursue or exercised her right to education due to Panga who conned her to leave school for an early marriage. She weeps about how she is being disadvantaged by that background as she is now over-depending on a neglecting husband. Through her voice, we are being taught about how selfreliance is important to every woman, same as it is to any man. This is happening in many families where women are not allowed to work for themselves by their husbands. So, to stop this psychological abuse women should also be given equal opportunities to empowerment. Women should be allowed to work.

The piece of art by Mr. Wallace Macheke speaks volumes of many reality challenges which women face in their day-to-day lives.

Orange the world: End Violence against women and girls now; stop early marriages.

What are you understanding from this textual activism against Gender Based Violence?

New Cameroonian Sultan Refuses To Marry 14-Year-Old Girl Says She’s A Minor, Offers To Pay For Her Education

His Royal Highness Nabil Mbombo Njoya, the new sultan of Bamoun in Cameroon has offered to cater for a 14-year-old girl’s education to whom he was supposed to get married.

HRH Nabil Mbombo Njoya refused to marry the 14-year-old girl, saying she is a minor, thus she needs to be in school studying to attain a respectable career in her life as he offers to pay for her education.
To end traditional procedures known as “Lah-Kam,” a new Sultan’s wife must come from the Njim Monchouh line, according to custom.

But, Sultan Njoya, on the other hand, turned down the family’s offer of a 14-year-old girl because she was a child, preferring instead to marry his long-term girlfriend.

What is the World without Art?

AfriRemedy focuses on the role of art in life. We believe that art has the capacity to challenge oppressive ideologies and hegemonies, solve problems, educate, heal, entertain and a whole lot more!

But this only takes community effort to achieve. Together we stand and divided we fall! As such we use applied arts (performance dialogues) community interventions to identify and address problems.

We value collaboration. We hope to push forward the future of art, communication and exchange between artists from different communities globally,
