- Max Petri, Schach-Echo 1961, 1st Prize
A sharp key followed by a curt response on the second move of the main variation leading to a surprising zugzwang makes this crisp three-mover worthy of all the praise that it received. Tell us now, how do you like it? :)

Team Botswana tops the overall medals table...3 Gold vs Zimbabwe's 2 Gold...
And here is a touching story in this African Schools event....
The Bible says in Romans 8:31 If God be for us, who can be against us? That is exactly Ms. Nakanyike Maria's story as all Odds were against her to make it to the continental championship. Uganda Chess Federation labored to look for sponsorship for her and even NTV Uganda ran their plea on Prime News on 30/7/2017. She got to the continental event late, missing two rounds but determined to play like never before. She won all her games beating the Botswana Duo of Ms. Moshoboro Arona and Ms. Banda Natalie Marlo to claim a Silver Medal for Uganda, 100% winning streak, joint first with seven (7) points out of Nine (9) rounds, a FIDE rating of 1820 and a Woman Candidate Master Title. After the Event, she will officially be the second Highest rated Ugandan Lady after Woman Fide Master WFM. Ivy Amoko(1824), ahead of Queen of Katwe Woman Candidate Master WCM Mutesi Phiona(1628) and other Lady Cranes and national players. She would have gotten Gold medal hadn't she missed even one round.

The Zimbabwe Chess Championships roared into life yesterday at the traditional POSB Causeway in Harare with 3 FIDE Rated Sections Men, Womens and The Candidates Section (in pic) ...Some great games being seen..Overall 130 chess players are taking part.
Its a four day event with a ten (10) men round robin mens champs..30 ladies playing in a swiss ...and 90 players battling for honours in the Open Candidates Section.
Young man Tapiwa Jele played two tough opening games in this top closed National event , first with Elisha Chimbamu then with the best ever Knights legend Zhemba Jemusse. To be the best play with the best..he shall rise one day! Zhemba edged the tough tactical horse Bhobhojani in his other game.
The experienced and tough Spencer Masango had two draws today against Emarald Mushore and Elisha Thabo. Mushore also had the same performance, got the other draw from Darare.
Vitalis Mapuranga had a bad start, hope he will pick up and revive his dream Easter Open performance..He lost all his games today vs Roy Mwadzura and Heath Darare. The on fire Elisha Chimbamu polished neatly the rookies Jele and Mwadzura ...giving the youngsters one or two things to learn.
Elisha Thabo had a promising start drew Masango and beat Bhobhojani..
A superb show as well for Candidates 2016 joint winner Heath Darare, beating Vitalis Mapuranga and sharing a point with the top seasoned player Emarald Mushore. Well done! Tomorrow the battle continues at 8am at POSB Causeway Harare...
