The pimento tree is the only native spice tree in Jamaica. Jamaicans have been honoring its history and tradition since the 1500’s.

The name pimento originated from the Spanish word’ pimiento’ (pepper or peppercorn) and is called ‘pimento’ or’ allspice’ in Jamaica. The name is derived from the distinctive aroma of the berries the blended fragrances of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and pepper in one spice. These pimento berries have been used as an ingredient in some of Jamaica’s favorites like escoveitched fish and jerk chicken. In fact it has been a staple ingredient in Jamaican cooking for years.
