Do you have memories of sitting in between your mother’s legs while she parted your hair, oiled your scalp, and styled you up in some plaits? Are those memories fond or tearful? For me, they’re all tearful. I remember my first hair cut because I just could not take it anymore, lol. Things seem to have changed for the worst now, I am horrified when I see a child with relaxed hair or a weave. I guess this is because many do not know what to do, we want our children to have nice long hair and those tears of us yanking their hair is too traumatic for us so we find an easy way out. Here are some tips to help you with your little one’s hair journey
• Moisturizing is the key: kids’ hair can get extremely dry. From wearing wool hats in the winter, to going to swimming lessons, to a general rough and tumble lifestyle, so many things can zap the moisture right out of your little one’s hair. If they also have tight kinks and curls, you’ll want to pay even more attention to this.
o Adding a bit of extra virgin olive oil or jojoba oil to shampoos and conditioners is always a good move.
o Stick to water-based moisturizers to keep hair soft and supple in between washes
o Use natural oils like coconut oil, argan oil, and shea butter to nourish and lubricate your child’s hair before styling.
- Make hair combing seem like FUN, not work. Not a challenge. Let her know it’s time to take tender loving care of her crowning glory and there’s no reason to dread doing it.
- Give your little one something to DO. Some parents give their girls a book or a favourite toy. Some parents use a favourite movie or cartoon, or a handheld video game. Some parents include their child in the process and let them detangle their own hair (carefully and under supervision, of course). You have to decide what works best for both of you!
- Watch what you say and how you act. Exasperated sighs, escalating voices, and statements that make your child’s hair seem like a heavy burden and a bother — those things pe*****te. Be PATIENT.
- When detangling DON'T start at the roots; you'll just make tangles worse. Instead, begin at the ends and slowly work your way up the hair shaft, gently pulling apart knots with your fingers.
Lastly if taking your child to a hair salon, go to one that knows how to work with natural hair and make sure they are not using adult shampoo on your child’s hair except if it'
s a natural shampoo. Most products that are formulated for adults have chemicals in them that are way too harsh for the little ones. Using adult products (even certain mild ones) on your little one’s hair can cause their scalp to become irritated and could even cause rashes and excessive dryness

Overnight Hair Growth Challenge Part 2 : The Reveal

This challenge was very interesting, from dripping eggs, to a late night. i will definitely be doing this treatment every month.

part 1

Benefits of the ingredients i used
Eggs - Prevent hair loss and aid hair growth
Hair primarily constitutes of proteins and amino acids and eggs are powerhouses of proteins, vitamins and fatty acids that nourish the hair extensively. The egg is a great solution to most of the hair problems, and they are easily available, inexpensive and are natural alternatives that can be used both internally and externally for hair growth. Eggs make the hair strong, prevent breakage, make them soft and help in their growth. While artificial products strip the hair of its natural oils, eggs help to restore the natural oils present in the hair and scalp.

Coconut oil - Coconut oil stimulates hair growth getting deep into its follicles, promotes the scalp health fighting against such problems as lice and dandruff, moisturizes dry hair, adds lu ster, shine and softness to the hair.

Flaxseed Oil - The anti-inflammatory properties of flaxseed are actually going to promote a healthy environment for hair growth in your scalp. Choosing the right flaxseed oil can make or break a natural hair treatment, cold pressed flaxseed oil preserves nutrients such as vitamin E, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids.
