Day 18: See it through!
When I was in school I was an athlete. I was not great with short distances or swimming 😅 … but rather long distance running. I did scoop a coupla certificates for that you know! Though I would dread starting the race, the joy that came in completing it, was more fulfilling.
Today I pray for endurance. That I may be able to see through whatever God has planned for me. That I may pace myself well in this new season. That I may not be my own hinderance. That I may be fit and able to do. To endure through it all and make my master smile.
Happy birthday to me!
It’s a milestone, a new season and Im grateful for grace 🙏

Day 13: WHAT’S THE TEMPO?
Happy Sunday and how was church??!!!
I have come across very interesting insights about my reflection of today. This one is mainly for my fellow music ministers. Let’s talk about it! 😅😅😅
From where I stand, we generally associate the presence of God with slow paced songs only. In a 30 minute praise and worship set it it almost feels like the first 2 or 3 songs are "placeholders" for the last half of the session where the Holy Spirit is expected to be present. So where was He all along?
I wonder what kind of song Mirriam sang when the children of Israel triumphed over Pharaoh, or the one King David danced to until he tore his inners! Or better still the one Paul and Silas sang til the prison doors opened!
I have learnt that we tend to place God in a box that fits our perspective, preferences and world view. Is the Spirit of God deterred by the pace of a song?
God's music is meant to uplift, bring honour to Him and draw us closer to Him. For everything there is a time and place. At times we need to be uplifted out of that trench of depression, at times we need to hear Him in that still small voice, either way, God is present!
My understanding is: it is a heart issue. The Word says guard your heart with all diligence from out of it flows the issues of life. We know deep down the posture of our heart when we do what we do. The pace of the song need not remove our eyes from the Savior. Or are we our own limiting factors? 🤔🤔
Our role as worship leaders is to seek God to give us songs that direct our eyes to Him. Sometimes we leave the people of God with no choice, honestly 😆
We need Word based "praise" songs that actually praise God. For He dwells in the PRAISES of his people! How beautiful it would be if our praise/fast praise songs are reflective of God's grace, remove shackles, invite the presence of God from start to finish and leave the body of Christ actually uplifted!
Looking forward to your thoughts!

Day 12 : OOPS! TWAS A MISTAKE!
Over the couple of years God has allowed me to stand and minister in song, I have had to learn the great attribute of rising above a mistake.
It’s almost inevitable that our presentations are accompanied by mistakes, some greater than others. From forgotten lyrics to incorrect lines to misplaced routines. Some lyrics we have had to live with were not part of the script!
A most recent mistake for me; ‘Dancing in Your Light’ was the last addition to the Worship Moments Album Recording. At the last rehearsal, we added a new bridge (the part which is neither the verse or chorus 😅😅) and all was set.
Come recording, right at Art Farm, the song is going, chorus done, its time for the bridge…. “Bridge! bridge!”
Bridge was not bridging…!
I remember looking at the team for help, noone was coming to the rescue… they had also forgotten!!🤦♀️
I started singing a new bridge: “My praise, wont stop right now!”
The younger me would have buckled under. Probably stopped the song, fixed the lyrics and lost confidence for the rest of the night. It was a recording for crying out loud! 😅😅
But, what if that line was God’s intended plan?
Funny enough this has become my favorite part of the song!
I learnt that a lot of inventions we celebrate were mistakes that were given opportunity. These include coca-cola, potato chips and even matches!!
Children too!! 😜😅😂😂😝😅
Just makes me think, how many products would have seen the light of day had we not been over consumed with the one outcome we are vying for. 🤔🤔
In creativity, nothing goes to waste, it’s either we learn or we repurpose ♻️♻️
One who has made 100 mistakes stands stronger and better positioned that one contemplating to make 1 perfect move.
Prov 24:16- though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again,
Yes it was a mistake, we learn, we rise again with more determination.

Day 11: Keep on keeping on!
So one of the things I find hard to do is get back into my routine after leaving it for a while. Particularly getting back to workout, after travels. My coach has to come up with innovative ways to ascertain that I’m actually back! 😂
Life rarely happens in a straight line. We make plans but things crop up and derail us. However we should not lose sight of the mark. I have learnt to try and regain momentum before the time gap increases too much. Momentum is hard to build but easy to lose, yet we achieve more when we maintain it.
Consistency is not a full battery every day. There are days we feel less motivated than others, but guess what, we press on, maintain momentum, so that we are in gear for those highly motivated days.
Some days are not as productive, in those less productive days, we extent grace, press on and maintain momentum. We don’t ditch the project.
Imagine Moses and the children of Israel, there were uneventful days were all they needed to do was to keep walking. There may be no spark in the moment but keep doing it anyway, building momentum and remaining consistent - you are progressing!
So help me God as I try my best to build momentum for these reflections…😆

Day 10 : TRUST THE PROCESS
A Night of Thanksgiving 2017 was the first ‘ANOT’ as we know it now. I can almost name everyone who was in attendance…
I can testify that a lot went right, God was praised! However, I can tell you a handful went wrong in terms of our presentation, preparedness and all. Thank God it was a small, familiar crowd!
We live in a fast paced era. We have big dreams and we want to achieve them instantly - as fast as instant noodles!
I have learnt that each place we are at is preparation for the next greater level. We grow in stages. We prepare for the next level by learning from our pitfalls in the previous stage, just like candy crush 😆😂
We stop growing the moment we stop learning.
I can just imagine what would happen if the stage mistakes and challenges I faced with 10 congregants in my father’s church had been infront of 6,000 attendees.
To everything there is a season. In God’s systems and principles, babies crawl, stand, walk then run.
Question is are we patient enough to trust the process?

Day 9 - Wasted time
Some years ago I was faced with a dilemma. A certain situation went bad and called for us to make a difficult decision.
As the day drew closer , the need to make a call was pressing. For three days and nights, all we could talk about was this decision, it’s implications, the repercussions, the probable backlash. It was a rock and a hard place.
A day before what would have been d-day, we found ourselves in a certain meeting. This meeting had been postponed numerous times but finally happened that day. It was unrelated to the dilema.
Conversations from this meeting unexpectedly brought a solution to our difficult situation. Everything was solved instantly. I simply could not believe it.
This meeting became a situation of being at the right place at right time. No effort, no begging, no drama.
The realization was; we wasted valuable time, playing scenarios and trying to divise our own solution, according to our own understanding. That time could have been used to sleep, play, rest, pray or even write a song!! It was wasted worring yet God had a solution standing all along, we just did not know.
This is why the Bible says “Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding”….our understanding is limited!
Time is more valuable than money, because once it’s gone you can not get a replacement. You can always work harder and get more money but you can not work hard to retrieve lost time.
I regretted relying on people and “connections” and not putting my whole trust in God in this. It was a huge lesson, God is Sovereign, there is nothing too hard for Him. He calls us to cast our cares on Him, and He will sustain us.
Do not worry, rather use the time to cast your cares on Him!

Day 8 - One more push
One of the breathing exercises I’m learning starts from an out of breath place. The point to to train one to sing on even when they feel they have exhausted all the air they had. Interestingly, when you put your heart to it you can push a little longer… comfortably.
Many Blessings is one of those video shoots that needs mention in the books. It was a 3 day shoot. Unfortunately, we ate contaminated food and half of the team was sick!
Hama dzangu takarwara 😅😅😅 It’s only funny now as we look back but anga ari ma1.
This was day 3, so what was there to do after props were in place, teams, resources, time set aside….? We had shot 60% already. We had to push through. We still had to dance and make the joy of the Lord our strength!
My point of reflection is : We can go a little further than what we call our breaking point. The strength is in us.
We can stay awake a lil longer and complete that task.
We can push a lil harder to get that relationship sorted.
We can hold on a lil longer and get the promotion we have been waiting for.
When the fishermen felt they had toiled all night and not caught anything, on Jesus’ instruction, they cast their nets a little deeper and caught fish til the nets broke!
I had to push a little harder to get this done today 😄
What do you need to push a lil harder on today? You have the capacity.
Shall I go deeper???!!

Day 7 - REST
If God almighty rested on day 7, what more His creation… Gen 2:2
Prioritizing rest helps us gather momentum for the next phase.

Day 6 - GOOD DISTRACTIONS
I don't know if it's just me who struggles with this.... but I really get distracted around my house. 🤦♀️
For example, I wake up early in the morning wanting to pack my closet with a target to finish by midday, in time for school run. We start off well, by tearing everything down, cleaning the shelves, dusting everything down. The music is playing, Im motivated! A few minutes later, I take out some trash then on my way I see the house plants need attention. Afterwards , the trash can needs to be cleaned down, then storage needs to be organised, then, then, then….
An hour later, I remember, Oh I’m actually packing clothes and head back to my main task. Bestie then calls and we start talking about the same story for the 11th time..., next I’m hungry, next its time for school run!
I am learning more that distractions are not always bad things, they can be good, generous, necessary, beautiful acts BUT still they do not align with our purpose/plan. They affect our focus, take away from the attention our task or purpose needs.
The main thing is to keep the main thing, the main thing!
FOCUS and PRIORITISING is key.
Most times we know what we are supposed to do, but we end up involved in so much things that were not part of the plan...of course the plants are watered, the washer is cleaned, but was it the part of the day’s priorities.
My greatest fear is getting to heaven and God saying “Well, yah, but that’s not what I asked you to do!” 😭
Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made to host Jesus, while Mary sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he had to say, which was the important thing to do!
I choose to let His Word lead the way, and get rid of “good” distractions!
